Ipswich triathlon club – Senior championships

From 2012, the club senior championships will be based on points earned by performance across a number of events – the club’s “Championship League”.

Men & women are treated discretely.

The Club Champions will be the members with the highest number of points gained from a valid combination of three eligible events.

The Veteran Champions will be the people with the highest number of points from those remaining members (ie excluding the Club Champions) in age group H or above (aged 40 or older on 31 Dec 2012)

The Super Veteran Champions will be the people with the highest number of points from those remaining members in age group J or above (aged 50 or older on 31 Dec 2012).

Earning points

Points will be awarded for performance within an eligible event.

Each eligible event has a tariff, which is the number of points which would be earned by the “40th percentile” finisher, or “reference finisher”.

These tariffs are:

Sprint/supersprint 80 points
Olympic or equivalent 90 points
Ironman70.3 or equivalent 95 points
Ironman or equivalent 100 points

The points earned by a member is calculated thus:

Points = (Member’s time / Reference finisher’s time) x Tariff

so a person finishing ahead of the reference finisher will score more points than the tariff, somebody finishing slower than the reference finisher will score fewer points.

Eligible events

The list of eligible events – the Championship League – is shown below.

A member must score from THREE events.

Of these three events, at least one must be “Olympic or equivalent” (tariff 90 points).

If a member competes in more than three events, it will be the best valid combination of their events which counts.
