IPSWICH TRIATHLON CLUB - training and other club sessions

Please always check the news items on the club website homepage and the most recent copy of ITCH for details of specific sessions.

The ITCH league - click here for fuller details - remember the league is there in part to help give you a focus for your training, and to give you a baseline from which to improve next year.

Thursday evening club sessions at Greshams, Tuddenham Road, Ipswich -  there are changing facilities and showers at Greshams, so members often meet for social training - come in time to change and be ready for a 7:00pm start. If you can't or don't want to do any training, then aim to join us for a beer or some food from about 8pm onwards.  (This is often a "bling fest" - the ideal time to show off any medals you've just acquired!).

An informal rota of volunteer leads determines the specific sessions, which have included straight rides & runs, turbo/run "brick" sessions, and drill sessions.

For the bike and turbo/run sessions, bring your bike (& turbo if you have one. If you don't have a turbo, contact Steve dB to borrow a club turbo).

Saturday morning pool swim sessions are held at the girls school in Woolverstone & cost £4. Be there ready in time to get changed so you can get wet at 9:00am. The pool session guillotines at 10:00. Please note these are training sessions - they are not fully coached, nor are they "leisure" sessions.  Some people follow a group "set" but there is normally at least one lane for people following their own improvement schedules.

Although these sessions are on most weeks, you should check in ITCH for details, especially during school holidays when the pool is sometimes closed to us.

If you want to be on a ring round list for notification of changes at short notice then let Steve dB have your number. Steve is on 07795 564322.

Note - a lot of people ride but if you're driving, please use the car parking area just down and around the corner from the pool - not the pavement outside the pool doors.

Open water swimming - Gosfield, Tuesday evenings

Steve dB and others often go to the Gosfield open water swimming sessions on Tuesday evenings between 1830 - 2030. [Click here for last leaflet we had].
Steve says "
a few of us go and it’s a good open water swim session. They’ve now marked out a 1500m course and last week there were 52 swimmers, we did a mass start, once you complete 1500m you can go round again if you want. It’s possible to get two hours swimming in at this time of year, which is great for you Ironman nutters."
So - worth letting Steve know if you're interested in these as there have been some car-sharing opportunities.

Open water swimming - Tri Anglia sessions at Whitlingham Country Park
Wednesday evenings & Saturday mornings

We have been told in the past that individuals are welcome to join in with Tri-Anglia's open water swim sessions but please don't start arriving en masse - there is a maximum of 30 per session and clearly Tri-Anglia people will get priority.  The sessions are held at Whitlingham Country Park just outside Norwich, and the venue for the Norwich triathlon.  Look at Tri-Anglia's website or contact Simon Edye   -  simon.edye@ntlworld.com  -  mobile 07915 089 223

Cycling - Ipswich Bike Club training

Adam Keer of Ipswich Bike Club is very keen for all junior members of ITC to come along to the IBC sessions at Foxhall stadium on occasional Saturday mornings. IBC is a member of the Go-Ride scheme that offer coaching specifically aimed at juniors, although adults are welcome on the track session.

If you would like further information contact Adrian Green on 01379388855 or e-mail juniors@ipswich-tri.org or contact Adam directly via e-mail adam.keer@ipswich.gov.uk

Cycling - bike improvement programme

As part of his coaching qualification progression, past member John Gabriel put together a bike improvement programme aimed at providing a good preparation phase over a 12-14 week period, typically from November – February.

The programme needs you to have your own turbo-trainer and preferably also a heart-rate monitor and cadence meter. Commitment would entail about 5-6 hours per week of bike work: a mixture of long rides (endurance) and continued turbo work (speed/power).

Although the programme was put together in 2005, the phases of this programme are posted below.

Running - Alton Water runs

Anybody interested in running around Alton Water on Friday mornings please contact Susannah Rosenberg. Occasionally these informal runs happen on a Saturday in which case Susannah times them to allow people to go swimming first.
