ITCH league

Introducing the 2009 ITCH league

The ITCH League continues to be mainly for fun, to give a focus for training, and to help increase the presence of the club in the region.  There will be no proper prizes for league results, just a warm glow for seeing how much you've improved - or avoided slowing down with age! Your ranking will be based on your best four relative results chosen from eligible events - weighted according to the distance.

For 2009 I have halved the event tariffs but because of the way in which I do the calculations this will not change your scores.  It just makes it more obvious - the "standard" score for an Ironman becomes 100 points. If you are in the top 40% of the finishers you will score 100 or more points, if you are in the remaining 60% you will score less than 100. Shorter events score fewer points.

The league does not count toward the club championship, although the club championship can count toward the league.

The rules

Any member can be included in the league but for an event to count toward your score, you must compete in club kit. "Club kit" can be anything sourced from the club - a running vest, a gillet, a cycle jersey, a tee-shirt, etc - provided that at least the top is recognisably Ipswich triathlon club kit for the bike and run. (If you have just joined the club and have had to order an item which is currently out of stock, the club kit rule will be suspended in your case until your kit arrives but you must identify yourself to other members at events so they know who they are racing.)

You score league "points" for each event, based on your time compared to the "40th percentile" time, and the difficulty of the event.

You can only score league points at the events listed below, except you can count any single long ("Ironman") distance event provided you can supply full results in a format from which we can calculate your ranking.  This includes events such as the Norseman as well as WTC-registered Ironman events, but the event must be based on the full WTC distances of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike & 26.2 mile marathon run.

Note that you cannot count Culford if you have raced it before as a club member.

Your league position is based on your best FOUR performances from the league so you could, in theory, just stick to sprints - but why not enter the club championship to make up your foursome?

The Club championships 2009

The Ipswich triathlon club championship will be decided on a one race basis. The race chosen remains Norwich for 2009, which is a standard ("Olympic") distance race. Enter direct. We do NOT have any special entry route at this stage.

Please - when you are asked to enter your club name, do not enter simply as "Ipswich". Use "Ipswich Triathlon Club" -  it makes it a lot easier to see that you're not from JAFFA,  Harriers or any other Ipswich-based club.

While not compulsory for the club championship, you are expected to wear club kit.  Club kit must be worn for any result to count toward the league.

THE ELIGIBLE EVENTS

For 2009 I have introduced two additional Sprint events - Fritton and Newmarket. This is because many people are away for Wattisham, Waveney is already full, and you will NOT be able to count Culford unless this is the first year you have competed as a club member.

Notes

If there are any mistakes in the dates I've given please let me know as soon as possible.

The selection of events picks up on discussions at Thursday evening sessions and, hopefully, includes events where we already had people entered. If a large number of people are going to a given event, it is worth contacting Steve dB to see if you can borrow the club flags for use as a gathering points. They are HUGE.
