ITCH league

Introducing the 2010 ITCH league

The ITCH League continues as ever to be mainly for fun, to give a focus for training, and to help increase the presence of the club in the region.  There are no prizes for league results, just a warm glow for seeing how much you've improved - or avoided slowing down with age! Your ranking will be based on your best four relative results chosen from eligible events - weighted according to the distance.

The "standard" score for an Ironman is 100 points. If you are in the top 40% of the finishers you will score 100 or more points, if you are in the remaining 60% you will score less than 100. Shorter events score fewer points.

The league does not count toward the club championship, although the club championship can count toward the league.

The rules

Any member can be included in the league but for an event to count toward your score, you must compete in club kit. "Club kit" can be anything sourced from the club - a running vest, a gillet, a cycle jersey, a tee-shirt, etc - provided that at least the top is recognisably Ipswich triathlon club kit for the bike and run. (If you have just joined the club and have had to order an item which is currently out of stock, the club kit rule will be suspended in your case until your kit arrives but you must identify yourself to other members at events so they know who they are racing.)

You score league "points" for each event, based on your time compared to the "40th percentile" time, and the difficulty of the event.

You can only score league points at the events listed below, except you can count any single long ("Ironman") distance event provided you can supply full results in a format from which I can calculate your ranking.  This includes events such as the Norseman and the Challenge branded events, but the event must be based on the full WTC distances of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike & 26.2 mile marathon run.

Note that you cannot count Culford if you have raced it before as a club member.

Your league position is based on your best FOUR performances from the league so you could, in theory, just stick to sprints - but why not enter the club championship to make up your foursome?

The Club championships 2010

The Ipswich triathlon club championship will be decided on a one race basis. The race chosen for 2010 is Cambridge - their standard ("Olympic") distance race scheduled for Sunday 15th August. You must enter direct. We do NOT have any special entry route.

However, if you are asked to enter your club name, do not enter simply as "Ipswich". Use "Ipswich Triathlon Club" -  it makes it a lot easier to see that you're not from JAFFA,  Harriers or any other Ipswich-based club.

While not compulsory for the club championship, you are expected to wear club kit.  Club kit must be worn for any result to count toward the league.

THE ELIGIBLE EVENTS

For 2010 I have retained the two Sprint events - Fritton and Newmarket - that I added last year but, to clarify, it is the Fritton SPRINT that will count for the league, not the shorter Super Sprint.

However, I have dropped London triathlon from the league (despite having a deferred entry myself!) because the way they publish their results made it unreliable for league purposes.  I was very tempted to include Clacton instead of London but this could lead to a clash of interests with our own duathlon. I thought about Bedford but it clashes with Cambridge. I even thought about Windsor but this is already full.

So, having looked at events just outside our region, I am introducing a choice of two additional standard length events to make up for dropping London: one to the south, one to the north - the Merchant Taylor at Northwood, and the Dambuster at Rutland.

STOP PRESS - as of March 31st I am now agreeing also to include the Swashbuckler as an alternative middle-distance option alongside the Vitruvian & the Wimbleball IM70.3.
