2006 IPSWICH TRI CLUB TRAINING

Thursday evening club nights

In most cases the Thursday evening club session from Greshams will be a run session but in some cases a BIKE is going to be very useful.
A rota of volunteer leads has been put together - see ITCH for current position. Senior runs & ride-outs usually start at 7:00pm.

Following the success of the recent Junior Training Day we are staging three follow up training sessions designed at preparing athletes for the forthcoming Ipswich Junior Triathlon being held in August. The sessions will be held at Greshams Sports Club on the following Thursday evenings from 6-7 pm:

29 June - Run Training
20 July - Bike Training
24 August - Transition Training

New members and juniors who haven't entered the Junior Tri are very welcome. Sessions will be staffed by qualified coaches and will be free to members and £2 to non-members.

For further details contact John Gabriel on 01394 278473.

Swimming - Saturday morning sessions

Swim sessions at Woolverstone School - April to July

A very good swim training session in excellent pool with qualified life guard.  Start 9am prompt for at least 1 hour with the option of bike ride afterwards.
Here are the latest planned swim dates.

June   24th

July    1st, 8th, 15th (note that the session planned for 15th, thought to have been cancelled, is now going ahead)

No swimming during summer holidays period - planned September restart 9th

The cost to each member is now £4 per session with the rest still being subsidised by the club - but please note the pool has been booked for training & improvement rather than purely recreational splashing about.

If driving, please use the car park around the corner, not the pavement outside the pool doors.

Any questions email Jeff and Tonya at bubble.squeek@ntlworld.com

Times are 0900 - 1000 prompt at Ipswich High School, Woolverstone.

This has taken a lot of organising and goodwill on behalf of the school. The pool is a 25m 6 lane excellent facility and this is an opportunity which we should make the most of.

In order to secure these sessions we have had to bring in the services of a qualified swim coach and life guard, if anyone in the club has a lifeguard qualification please let us know. It is a requirement that at least one person is not swimming for health and safety reasons (lifeguard) and all insurance is provided by the club. As long as Tonya or I are available one of us will happily do this - however there will be dates when we cannot oblige. If the swim instructor is present this will not be necessary but he may not be there every session. (Members may wish to employ him for coaching in a private capacity.)

Although Tonya and I organised these sessions we are not instructors but have a number of ideas from our club swim sessions. Everyone will be encouraged to contribute with ideas for sessions and we will of course structure as best as we can for varying abilities.

As part of his planned progression to Level 2 Triathlon Coach, John Gabriel is offering to put together a bike improvement programme.  This is all still subject to confirmation but would be aimed at providing a good preparation phase over a 12-14 week period from November [2005] – February [2006].

The programme, which would be based on one which John used with a cycle-specific group last year, would need you to have your own turbo-trainer and preferably also a heart-rate monitor and cadence meter. Commitment would entail about 5-6 hours per week of bike work: a mixture of long rides (endurance) and continued turbo work (speed/power).

If you are at all interested, please e-mail John at jgcoaching@btinternet.com in the first instance.

Running - Alton Water runs

Anybody interested in running around Alton Water on Friday mornings please contact Susannah.
