Ipswich Triathlon Club
Why Ipswich Triathlon Club?
NOTE - this
information dates from 2004 & is under constant review. For example, we now have a
regular club night on Thursdays at Greshams in Ipswich, a Saturday morning
members-only swimming session (pool-based during term times, open water in
summer), a Tuesday evening open water session (in summer) and various ride-outs. (See the notices in ITCH.)
As East Anglias leading
triathlon club we aim to promote the sport of triathlon to all levels of
athlete, whether beginner or expert, junior or superveteran No-one will be
excluded and beginners and newcomers to the sport are especially welcome. We
currently have about 100 members spread over Suffolk, South Norfolk and Essex.
The membership ranges from eight years old to eighty. From complete beginners,
yet to do their first event, to international athletes who have competed in
world championships.
What can the club offer?
- A newsletter (called
ITCH!) distributed free to all members. This magazine contains details of
training sessions, races, and generally acts as a forum for club members to
keep in touch with what is going on locally.
- We are affiliated to British Triathlon
(BT), Cycling Time Trials (CTT) & South
East Athletics association and UK Athletics. This allows you to take part in
cycling time trials (either open events held at weekends or local
evening 10 mile time trials held on summer evenings all over the Eastern
area.
- The chance to run in road
races and cross country via our affiliation to UK Athletics. This usually
gives you a £1 discount on race entry fees. We usually enter the winter
cross country league in a combined team with Cambridge Triathlon Club. There
are races for juniors just after the start of the adult race.
- Discount off kit at Sweatshop (Ipswich).
- Quality club kit at
discounted prices.
- Training and equipment
advice from qualified coaches.
- Loan of triathlon
instruction videos, books and cycle turbo trainers for indoor winter
training. We have a couple of bike bags for transporting bikes on aircraft.
All these are available free of charge.
- The club is usually
allocated 2 places in the London marathon. These places are available to
members who have entered the race in the normal way. There is a ballot for
places held at the AGM in November.
- Club members usually organise
social events during the course of the year.
- A Club Championships with trophies for
seniors, veterans and supervetarans (over 50).
- An informal "ITCH League".
What does it cost?
See above for 2010 membership fees.
All renewals are due on 1st January. Joining after July usually cost half.
Does the Club promote events?
The Club will promote a sprint
triathlon in July, a Junior Triathlon for 8-16 year olds in late August and a
duathlon (run / cycle / run) in Autumn - all profits will be used to the benefit of the
membership.
Members will be expected to
assist or provide an assistant at one of these events. Our Junior Triathlon is
part of the Eastern Area series.
