08-Aug-11 Club members information page has been updated with new contact numbers for kit & pool-swimming.
27-Jul-11 Latest (as in "very late") ITCH now on-lineclick here for your June stories, and the scores from June's races.

Swimming - we have, after all, been able to retain the use of the pool on Saturday mornings so you now have a choice.

Busy race month - good luck to everybody competing this month and especially this coming weekend in Culford.

11-Jul-11 ITCH League - current standings (-ish) after five events during June - now available as a PDF.
However, it does not yet reflect the results from Fritton Standard triathlon, as their published results don't actually say who is competing for which club. (I've asked for fuller results.)
Similarly, I could not see any ITC finishers in the published results for the Dambuster.
Those caveats notwithstanding, our league leaders going into July are Chris Tye and Mary Skelcher - well done both.

Training this week - as you'll have spotted from various twitter and Facebook updates, Tuesday's open water session has been cancelled but the owners have very kindly allowed us access on Thursday evening. So, with most regulars going swimming, this Thursday's "Greshams" session will most likely actually be an apres-swim social chat from around 8:00. (That isn't to say you cannot go running from Greshams if you want to.)

Saturday morning swimming - last of the current pool sessions is this coming Saturday, 16th July, before the school closes down the pool for its summer holidays. Simon Green is now the man to talk to about the school sessions.  Conversely, the open water facility is now open to us for the summer on Saturday mornings from approximately 9:00 to 10:30. Greg continues to be contact for the open water sessions.

TriYoga - advance notice that Susannah has been busy setting up some more Yoga sessions. Watch this space.

09-Jun-11 ITCH now on-lineclick here for your May stories
- read the details behind the league
- see how well our Juniors did the day AFTER Wattisham
- small ads include a ladies wetsuit AND a bike
- a new rule about the club champs
- get a part in a music video...

01-Jun-11 ITCH League - current standings, after four events during May - now available as a PDF

Thu 2nd - training session has been postponed to give people a chance to go into Colchester to see the town centre cycle racing.

Volunteers needed to help with a stand at the Great East Swim - please let Simon Palmer know when you could help.

20-May-11 Friday Fives - kick off tonight with JAFFA's in Ipswich.
There's a very useful summary of the series at http://www.stowmarketstriders.org.uk/fri5series.shtml and I've added links to the individual events on our own 2011 calendar

18-May-11 The Ipswich duathlon is now taking entries - see above - and don't forget...

Weekly time-trials will be on Tuesdays for six weeks starting 24th May (i.e. the Crowfield events), then back to Wednesdays on 6th July (Henley).

Training sessions:

Thu 19th May - Greshams - Fynn Valley run (off road approx 5m; option for extra mile)
S
at 21st May - Pool swimming, Isabel should be on hand to coach juniors at Woolverstone
Thu 26th May - Greshams - Bleep test
Sat 28th May - John W "getting out of a wetsuit" session at Woolverstone
Thu 2nd June - Greshams - currently “Turbo-run (bring your turbo or book a club one)” BUT this will move if the consensus amongst regulars is that they’d rather ride out to watch the town-centre cycle-racing in Colchester (see see
http://www.tourseries.co.uk/RoundInfo.asp?Round=COLCHESTER&Id=267 )
Thu 9th June - Greshams - Christchurch Park hill run

Tuesday evening - open water sessions now back on for the summer.

Wattisham - at last count, we had nearly 30 members competing on Sat 21st May.Good luck everybody.

13-May-11 2XU tri-suits - Minor change to design as first envisaged (they've had to reposition the club URL to avoid some mesh) - see "Kit" for updated picture. Also - please get any orders into Neil by close of play Friday 27th May.
09-May-11 Open water swimming resuming, test swim Tue 10th May - be at gate for 18.30. Further details in club members information
06-May-11 ITCH is available - click here for your April edition, slightly delayed while so we could include results from the East Coast Sprint triathlon.
Cut-off for items for next issue is Tuesday 24th May.

04-May-11 2XU tri-suits, over-printed with "Ipswich triathlon club", now available. See "Kit" for more information.
02-May-11 ITCH League (click here)

Having considered feedback, I have kept the league extended in favour of including events which count toward the regional league (see http://www.triathlonenglandeast.org/) and have even added another national championship event - the Cowman 70.3.

I am still concerned that this has left the league sprint-heavy. However, rather than dropping sprints from the league which people have already entered, I will put a limit on the number of different sprints which any individual can count toward the league. Only your two highest [80] tariff events will count. (If you think that is mean, remember that you can only count one long event.)

Note also non-first timers can now count Culford but only if you provide a volunteer for Culford, on top of your own volunteering duties.

2011 calendar - I've finally got around to removing the 2010 stuff. Let me know of any mistakes.

23-Apr-11 Cut-off for next ITCH is Tuesday 26th so please send in any race reports, small ads asap.

2012 Virgin London Marathon - the public ballot entry system opens on Tuesday 26th April and will close once 125,000 applications have been received. Last year the ballot reached this maximum within 24 hours. See www.virginlondonmarathon.com
If the club is successful in bidding for club places, one criterion for their allocation will be whether or not you took the trouble to apply for a place in the open ballot.

UK:A affiliation - the deadline for registering individuals with England Athletics isn't until June but if you have any friends who are thinking about joining the club, now would be a good time to do it.

Converting to family membership - If you have a spouse or similar partner living with you who is also "thinking about joining", contact charlie@ipswich-tri.org about converting your senior membership into family membership.

Saturday morning swimming is continuing over the Easter/Wedding/Bank holiday period. (There was a lot of space in the pool this morning!)

Thu eve 28 Apr - Dales Road run (approx 5 mile road run).

Thu eve 5 May - Christchurch Park hills (5k in the park + 2k warm up & 2k cool down).

31-Mar-11 ITCH is available - click here for information about the Junior Championships process and for race reports including "getting sweaty in Abu Dhabi".
Cut-off for items for next issue is Tuesday 26th April.

STOP PRESS
I gave the wrong twitter feed for Neil Catling in the version of ITCH which was e-mailed out. Neil can be followed on http://twitter.com/neilcatling

23-Mar-11 ITCH League - I have drafted a 2011 league (click here) and invite rapid comments/corrections. I have swapped one or two events to be able to map on to the regional league but it leaves the league too heavily biased in favour of sprints so I want to drop one of the earlier events from our league - my preference being Waveney which is already closed.
But, noting that we have the basis for a strong ladies team performance there, I'm open to perusasion...

09-Mar-11 Recent renewals/new members - there has been a slight hiccough with the on-line system which basically meant that I wasn't notified of any renewals/new members after February 16th. I'm now aware of these and will be sending out letters and any appropriate vouchers a.s.a.p.

Thursday nights at Greshams (from Dave):

10 Mar - Speed session (4 x 1200m intervals + 2k warm up & 2k cool down)
17 Mar - Fynn Valley headtorch run (approx 5 miles off-road; options to cut off 0.75m or add on 1.25m). Bring a headtorch.
24 Mar - Bleep test (how long can you keep up in Greshams car park?)
31 Mar - Dave's House run (approx 5 mile road run)

Sunday morning ride-outs (from Mary:

The next ride will be a Mountain Bike Ride on Sunday 20 March. Meet Rendlesham Forest (Tangham) in car park before main car park barrier. Meet 8.45(ish) for 9am bike off.
Contact: amanda (amandamallett@btinternet.com) or Michelle (chelleyjc@yahoo.co.uk)

The next bike ride will then be on Sunday 10 April, TBC.

21-Feb-11 Membership renewals - I have processed all renewals received as of 20th February, and acknowledgement letters & vouchers are in the post. Those of who have not yet renewed have until 25th February to renew if you want to receive your kit voucher. You can renew on-line at https://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100967 where you can use a credit card.

However - the date of Culford has changed. It has moved from 24th July to 31st July. Clearly this means that some people may wish to change their volunteer duties either to or from Culford. Please e-mail charlie@ipswich-tri.org by 28th February if you want to change your selection from the one(s) you gave when you renewed, otherwise we shall assume that you are happy to stick with the event(s) you've offered to help crew.

Swimming arrangements - Saturday morning swimming has been extended. As a trial, we will be booking the pool for two hours - from 8:00 to 10:00 - until the summer closure.
This coming Saturday, 26th February, there will be a WIDTHs session for our younger members from 8:00 until approximately 8:30, after which the lane ropes will go back in for lengths-based swimming until the 10:00 cut-off.
A similar widths session will then be held on the third Saturday of each month. Contact Isabel to get on to the widths sessions.  Charlie will continue to offer coaching assistance for age-group "improvers" from 9:00 to 10:00 as now, until at least 19th March.

16-Jan-11 Membership renewals - Reminder that, for 2011's subscriptions, we have decided to use EntryCentral to allow on-line renewals. However, I am still currently setting up and testing our subscription pages.

If you cannot wait, click here to download an old-style membership form but please note that the forms should go to Charlie Stannett this year, and not to Simon Palmer. Strictly speaking membership renewals are due by the end of January if you want to get your £5 kit voucher but I'll seek an extension to that cut-off if my testing takes much longer.

Local junior triathlon - we've been told about a triathlon in our region which might be of interest to our junior members. This one is at Southwold's St Felix School on 22nd May - see http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100983

28-Jul-10 Latest ITCH is available on line. Articles include race results and reports for June & July, including reports from both Frankfurt & Roth, plus some further training dates including Sunday morning ride-outs. There is also a picture of a bridge.

Wednesday time-trials - reminder that the local TT series is now open to club members. We will also be looking for volunteers for the two August races which we are hosting - please let Antony Birt know if you can help.

Swimming at Wolverstone is now finished but will start again in September once dates can be confirmed.

We can swim at the private reservoir on Saturday mornings from 9.00 -10.30, but we will have to swim around or away from the fishermen which can be arranged on the day. Tuesday nights is still on as well but the water level is very low now and the weed patches are getting bigger in places so people should be aware of the dangers and confident in open water

01-Jul-10 Gresham's Thursday night sessions

The club is looking to invest in a “wetronome” - see an example of how to use it at http://www.swimsmooth.com/ramptest.html - but is there anybody out there already got one/used one

15-Jun-10 So late you'd think it was the June edition but a new ITCH is available on line, containing race reports & results for May 2010. It even has a wetsuit in the small ads - timely for anybody thinking of swimming this weekend!
09-Jun-10 ITCH League - despite the best endeavours of my Acrobat software to stop me, I think I've finally managed to process all the league races up to the end of May, with the exception of any Ironmans which people wish me to consider. The table should be visible by clicking HERE - please let me know if you raced one of the events but I've missed you (I know I've at least one correction still to make from Wattisham).

Please note that these figures are subject to confirmation by all concerned that you either raced in club kit or were prevented from doing so because, although you had tried, you had been unable to get kit in time.

07-Jun-10
Great East Swim Sat 19 June - Alton Water - HELP needed for club stand

Ipswich Triathlon Club needs YOUR HELP to man our stand.

The GE swim will be even bigger this year with an estimated 2,500 swimmers plus est 8,000 + spectators. This is an excellent opportunity to promote our club and the sport of triathlon. The first swim wave starts at 8.30 with the final wave approx 4pm.

However, we URGENTLY need volunteers to help on the stand for the following slots:

  • 9am - 12.30pm
  • 12.30pm - 4.30pm

This promises to be a good day out with the opportunity to watch elite openwater swimmers. There will also be trade stands, activities (incl a climbing wall), refreshments etc and you’ll have a chance to look round.

If you'd like to help out, please e-mail mary.skelcher@btinternet.com by 6pm Wednesday 9 June - otherwise w emay need to cancel our stand.

02-06-10 ITCH is running late - processing the bank holiday race results for the league - but you might want to note this schedule for Thursday evenings, provided by Dave Copland:

3 Jun - Fynn Valley run
10 Jun - Bike ride (approx 1 hour)
17 Jun - Christchurch Park hills
24 Jun - Dales road run

12-05-10 Club kit - although you can still e-mail kit man John on kit@ipswich-tri.org it is probably easier for you to ring him at home on Ipswich (01473) 711592 - but please think about the time of day.
John
will normally make arrangements to hand over kit at a mutually convenient Thursday evening.
If you e-mail or write to John, please include your own full name, address & other contact details.

30-04-10 ITCH is available on line. Articles include Clacton "double" weekend added to ITCH league, Wattisham points,  Elvis, and jelly babies...
24-04-10 Duathlon date - as of today, the date of the duathlon is being brought forward by one week - to 19th September - to avoid clashing with the Clacton triathlon weekend. Further details as soon as available.
Nik Bestow will be contacting all members who nominated the duathlon as their "volunteer" event.

Search  - I've inserted a "Google Search" button in the left hand margin of this page on a trial basis.

BBC Weather - I've also inserted an "iframe" containing the BBC weather forecast for Ipswich which, from experience with other iframes, might not work with all browsers but does work with IE8 on Windows.

Constructive feedback welcome.

12-04-10 Wednesday 14th time trial is at Stowmarket - reverts to normal ICA 10 mile format, first off 6:30, rear light compulsory, front light recommended.
Thanks from Ant to all those who helped make the two ITC time trials a success with over 30 riders last week, and congrats to those who braved the weather and rode.
09-04-10 Swim-coaching -  reminder that Isabel is offering swim-coaching to members during April, May & June. Isabel’s programme, which will be held on Saturday mornings, is timed to coincide with the Great East Swim but is suitable for any member wishing to improve their swimming. However, you do need to contact Isabel - e-mail sport@sinkfarm.com - before April 15th so she can make suitable preparations. If required, Isabel can conduct a pre-programme assessment to help pinpoint specific opportunities for improvement. See March’s ITCH for more details.

Great East Swim -  we are hoping again to have a presence at this year’s Great East Swim but this will need members who are competing to help on some kind of rota basis.  Please give some thought to this.

ITCH league - the Merchant Taylor triathlon closed to entries with no take-up by our club's members so it will be dropped from the ITCH league.  Events in the league which were still accepting entries include both Cambridge and Fritton.

31-03-10 ITCH is available on line. Articles include details of Saturday morning swim COACHING sessions, free VO2 Max testing (yes, there's a catch), Swashbuckler confirmed as added to ITCH league, Alton run this coming Saturday, and a cafe out at Bawdsey...

Novice age-groupers - to repeat offer given in ITCH - are you an age-grouper (i.e. not a junior) who is new to triathlon and looking for some low-key coaching to get your through your first triathlon? If we have enough interest we’ll look at setting up some classes.

18-09-09 Duathlon volunteers - please be at Stutton Village Hall just after 7am on Sunday morning to be briefed and to pick up your hi-viz jacket etc.  If you are on the course it would be good if you could bring your mobile phone.

03-09-09 Junior results now finalised after minor adjustments.

ITCH league updated "pre-Vitruvian" - all to play for!
Click here to view; click here for XLS.

Duathlon volunteers needed - Nik Bestow is looking for more people to help from 7am to 11:30am on the Sunday (and a bit of help on Saturday to assemble the racking).
This is because some volunteers have dropped out which is taking us below the minimum needed to run with.
If you can help please contact Nik by e-mailing duathlon@ipswich-tri.org or telephone him on 01473 625070.

Swimming - reminder that Saturday sessions will be moving back to the pool from Saturday 12th September. (We're assuming everybody is in Rutland Water on Saturday 4th.)
Tuesday evenings will continue for now but will be reviewed as the evenings draw in.

29-07-09 A slightly rushed ITCH for July 2009 is viewable on-line including an urgent STOP PRESS about Thursday evening sessions: due to logistical issues, the scheduled sessions for tomorrow and next week will be swapped.
This means that the programme is now:

30th July 2009 - Turbo/run
6th August 2009 - Speed session

Subsequent sessions are unchanged. If you need to borrow one of the club turbo trainers, please let Dave Copland know on davecopland@btinternet.com - first come, first served.

27-07-09 ITCH league - click here (& keep fingers crossed) to see current standings, which now include eligible Norwich and Culford scores. (I am assuming that you all adhered to the club kit rule for Norwich; Culford only counted for Culford first-timers.)  As far as I know, our only Grays entrant scratched, and there may also be a couple of "longs" still to add in.
There is now a link to the standings up there in the left hand margin.
IMPORTANT - if you want your London scores processed, let me know when you're racing so I can find your times. I will not be able to scour all the files.

26-07-09 Saturday swimming changes - the pool-based sessions have now finished for the summer. However, we have been given permission to use the private, Tuesday evening, open water facility for the summer on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00-ish. This is strictly for club members only, and conditions are as for the Tuesday evening session - see ITCH for details.
14-07-09 Culford Triathlon 2009 Volunteers - Dave Copland writes:

Thanks to all those who agreed to help at the Culford triathlon on 26th July and who have replied to my email to confirm that they will be there. I have names for many of the jobs but there are still a few important positions that need to be filled. The race cannot go ahead safely unless I can get a few more volunteers.

If you are able to help, please contact me on culford@ipswich-tri.org. All volunteers will get a goody bag and refreshment vouchers. Thanks in advance.

Thursday evening sessions -Susannah writes:

30-06-09 ITCH for May & June 2009 is viewable on-line with
  • a veritable feast of race reports from April, May & June
  • exciting news about OPEN WATER SWIMMING (starting tonight!)

It's even got a new small ad!

29-06-09 Norwich triathlon - club championships

Good luck to everybody racing or just taking part at Norwich this coming weekend. Steve dB plans to take a gazebo and a club power flag or two (as long as they let him in to drop it all off!) so we’ll have a base camp for everyone, so keep an eye out for him.

22-06-09 ITCH League - standings going into July.

I have spent many hours sweating over PDFs and an increasingly irate PC but I think I have successfully processed all available data and updated the ITCH league - click here (and keep your fingers crossed that it works) to see the full spreadsheet approximately half-way through the season.

Some members have already completed four scoring events; others have yet to start. But it's already looking very interesting, with Rick Berry and Julia Green heading up things - and things can only get hotter as we go into July with Norwich & Grays, and also a bundle of Longs...

03-06-09 Race reports needed for ITCH - did you race at Waveney or Newmarket? Can you send me some words?

Thursday club sessions:

4 Jun: Fynn Valley run (off-road, approx 5 miles)
11 Jun: Spin session (not at Greshams; tell Ross if you're coming)
18 Jun: 1hr bike ride (2 or 3 groups, distance depends on speed)
25 Jun: Christchurch Park hill session
2 Jul: Shell garage run (4.5 mile road run)
9 Jul: Speed session (interval training road run)

Free talk at Bury Physio, Maynewater Lane, Thursday 4th June - see e-mail for details

Suffolk villages charity bike ride - Sunday 14th June - 20/40/80km options - see www.stowlions.org.uk for details & entry form.

13-05-09 Club sessions:

14th May - Derrick's Less Mysterious Run (in daylight the mystery is reduced). 6 mile road run

AND Meantime at Greshams...

John W's "Everything you wanted to know about bikes but were afraid to ask".

This is a very basic bike maintenance session including how to fix a puncture, adjust brakes, tyre pressures etc. For those of you who have ridden in groups, the answer is NOT "I've got the spare inner tube and Susannah will know how to fix it". No question is too stupid or trivial.

21st May - Christchurch Park Hills - Enjoy a run round the park with the added enjoyment of beasting yourself with hill sprints.

28th May - Turbo Run session. Bikes on turbos at Greshams interspersed with some running round the field. Great bike/run transition training. Is anyone who doesn't want to do the training willing to keep an eye on the bikes while people are running?

4th June - Fynn Valley - approx 5 mile trail run. Too light for werewolf spotting.

06-05-09 Tomorrow's club session - unfortunately Isabel can no longer lead the session planned for tomorrow's club night so you may need to do something different.

Club championship - when I last looked, 27 members had entered the Norwich standard triathlon. If you intend entering then do it now - there were only nine places left. See http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?festivalID=46

06-05-09 Reminder of social event - please let Ross know (e-mail ross@ipswich-tri.org or mobile 0773 6322 776) with some urgency whether you're coming to the Greyhound this coming Friday evening, 8th May. (See ITCH for further details.)

Funding for training as a coach - more to follow in next ITCH but if you can't wait visit www.suffolksport.com for details. Look for the item "Leading the Field".

Apparently Waveney 2 has opened - see http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100149

He’s planning to leave about 8:30 each day and will ride north out of Ipswich on the Westerfield Road. The ride is c. 120 miles so takes 6:30ish.

01-03-09 Culford full - waiting list in operation.

Sport England Survey - if you haven't already done so, consider registering to take part in the Sport England Survey about your participation in triathlon.
See http://surveys.globalepanel.com/wix/p286573946.aspx?type=2&Sport=triathlon

28-02-09 Culford opened for entries as promised at 6am on Thursday 26th February 2009.  It is already very nearly full. See http://www.entrycentral.net/index.php?raceID=100027 for the current position.

ITCH for February 2009 is viewable on-line.

31-01-09 ITCH for January 2009 is viewable on-line.
22-01-09 Club kit - the price lists shown on this website are the 2006 price lists - the prices shown reflect an item-by-item discount.  From 2009, kit will be charged at full cost but, at the moment, the 2009 costs are not yet known - apart from anything else our manufacturer is in the Eurozone. However, members are able to "earn" discount vouchers which can be saved and used to offset the price of any club kit which they buy.
21-01-09 Ipswich junior triathlon open for entries - tell your friends' children!
Enter at http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?festivalID=28

20-01-09 Membership renewal - please make sure you use the 2009 membership application form, and remember to enclose an SAE if you want Simon to send you a "prompt renewal" club kit discount voucher.
12-01-09 Club championship - the committee has agreed once more to adopt the Norwich "olympic" triathlon, on Sunday 5th July, as the decider for our club championships. Entries are already open - see http://www.tri-anglia.co.uk/NorwichTriathlon/ for further details. If you enter, make sure you enter the "olympic" (or "standard" distance) event and not the shorter "sprint" event.

The ITCH league has now also been finalised for 2009 - click here for details.

05-01-09 Important fixture corrections
In the calendar attached to ITCH I have been giving the wrong location for the cross-country on January 18th. It is NOT Bury St Edmunds; it is at Framlingham as stated in the body of ITCH and below.
See http://www.stowmarketstriders.org.uk/RaceDiary/SuffolkCountyXC.htm for pointers to maps.
Also, I had mistyped the date of Gt Bentley half-marathon as 9th February whereas it is in the Sunday 8th February - see http://www.gbrc.org.uk/

Wattisham vs Fritton Super Sprint
Wattisham is taking place on Saturday 25th April - see http://www.wattishamtriathlon.co.uk/ - which clashes with the Pyrenees training camp and the London marathon that weekend.
Ant suggests Fritton Super Sprint as a replacement for the purposes of the ITCH league. The "Super Sprint" is the same weekend as the Fritton Standard event - June 6th and June 7th - so it seems like a good idea - see http://www.fritton-lake-triathlon.co.uk/
If enough of you are still going to be doing Wattisham, I can include both in the league, which will give a wider choice for people not yet up to doing a standard distance or further. Let me know.

Reminder - don't forget to renew your subscriptions.
If you renew by end of January (and enclose an SAE when you send your wads to Simon) you should receive a club kit discount voucher on due course.

Subscriptions for 2009 - subscriptions remain as now, viz. family £20, senior £15, junior £5.  However, subject to confirmation by the committee, the requirement to provide help at one event may be tightened to ensure we have enough people on actual race days as opposed to setting up.

You are reminded that the Ipswich Triathlon Club AGM is on Thursday 13th November, to be held in Greshams’ annex (not the bar). Buffet from 6:30, formal business from 7:00.
Click here to download the agenda [PDF], which also includes a list of all valid committee nominations as at 29th October.
Note that there are currently no valid nominations for either treasurer or development officer. Any further nominations by e-mail to Simon Palmer.

Thursday run routes:

Nov 6 Big John's Pyramid Sprints
It gets harder and faster and then it gets a bit easier.
Nov 13 (AGM) Short run (tbc) ***6pm Start***
Make room for the buffet.
Nov 20 Fynn Valley Full Moon Fun with a Head Torch
Werewolf hunting over 5 miles of off-road cinder track

The hills are our friends. They make us faster.
Dec 4 Big John's Speed Session.

Dec 18 Fynn Valley Full Moon Fun with a Head Torch -  5 miles off-road on a cinder track

Christmas Social Shindig - Ross has booked 20 places at the Greyhound for Monday 8th December at 7:00pm (order from menu & pay at bar).  If you want "in", please contact Ross by mobile 0773 6322 776 or email.

26-10-08

ITCH league provisional outcome - click here to download as a PDF file - follows manual cranking of Vitruvian results, so this is really subject to confirmation from all the Vitruvian folk.

As most of you know this is all a bit unofficial but the “winners” are Dave Copland and Kate Stannett – both of whom actually scored slightly LOWER than last year. Lucy Bowditch would have scored higher if she had worn club kit at IMUK which would have given her an extra place or so.  Ross Weldon may also have done really well if he'd been first claim Ipswich.

The big improvers are all people who did more eligible events but, based on a quick butchers at my old print outs, words of praise must go to Julia Yelloly, Amanda Mallett and John Wankowski. And probably everybody else as well!

14-10-08
The Suffolk Winter League Cross Country - dates and venues for all six events:

26th October 08 Bury (Nowton Park) (Changed)
2nd November 08 Waveney (Fritton Lake)
16th November 08 Bungay (Ditchingham)
7th December 08 Woodbridge (Sutton Village Hall) * Note new venue*
18th January 09 Framlingham (note changed date)
1st February 09 Stowmarket (Haughley Park)

Senior events are about five miles and will start at 11am but junior times may vary depending on each host club. Please check prior to each event.
Turn up in good time and bring about a fiver in coins – Simon Palmer (or t.b.c. in Simon’s absence) will collect your name and a few quid on the day, which usually includes at least your first cup of tea après race.
You don’t run with a race number – you are given a ticket showing your finishing position as you cross the finish line, which ticket you then hand to Simon who collates.
UK:A rules – make sure you are wearing club kit.

Reminder - nominations needed for committee posts - please remember that all committee posts are elected on a yearly basis at the AGM. Nominations should be sent to Simon Palmer before 6th November, and should show the consent of the nominee to stand for the post, the name of the person nominating them, and the name of at least one other person who is seconding the nomination.
The only valid nominations received as of October's committee meeting were for Chair, Eastern Region Rep and Secretary.

22-09-08
No swimming on 4th OCTOBER. The school needs the pool.
Remember, if you want to be on Steve dBs "ring round" list for last minute changes, contact him on 07795-564322.

12-09-08 Situation vacant - Framlingham Junior Triathlon Race Director
You will have read in ITCH that Simon Palmer has decided to stand down after some years of successfully directing the Junior Triathlon.  Are you interested in taking this on?  If so, please let Simon know - simon.palmer@talk21.com - by the end of September so that the position can be discussed at the next committee meeting.

Thursday night sessions:

Sep 18th Dave's House Run
4.5 miles with a couple of little slopes
Sep 25th Valley Road Hills
400m repeats up hill to help improve your speed
Oct 2nd Big John's Speed Session
Experimental speed work session - ooer...
Oct 9th Shell Garage Run
4.5 miles - and it's flat
Oct 16th Finn Valley Head Torch
Excitement in the dark for five miles on a cinder track - bring a head torch!
Oct 23rd Dales Run
5 miles with one - okay, maybe two -small hills
Oct 30th Valley Road Hill
400m repeats up hill - improve your speed or collapse in a shaky white pool of pain - it's your choice

Please remember these are informal social training opportunities - and a perfect way to build up a thirst before hitting the bar afterwards!

Nominations invited for committee posts - please remember that all committee posts are elected on a yearly basis at the AGM. Nominations should be sent to Simon Palmer before 6th November, and should show the consent of the nominee to stand for the post, the name of the person nominating them, and the name of at least one other person who is seconding the nomination.

London marathon places - we will be applying for club places for the 2009 Flora London Marathon, for which members can apply.  As in previous years the committee will decide where the places go based on various criteria such as "did you apply in the open ballot" and "have you already had a club place".  However, we are applying a new "golden criterion" - you MUST have fulfilled your race volunteer obligations before your application will be considered.

Reminder - Marshals Urgently Required for Ipswich Duathlon, 21st September.
We need over 30 volunteers to make the Ipswich Duathlon a success and as of yesterday morning still did not have enough. This is the last club race of the year so could any members, especially any who have not yet helped out at a race this year, please contact Derrick Smith ASAP at derrick.smith@bt.com or on 07710 105551 to volunteer their help, or that of a friend. If you are racing then you could bring a friend along to marshal and watch at the same time.

Reminder - Saturday morning pool swim sessions resume tomorrow

Club development plan for 2009 onwards - Adrian Green is drafting the club development plan for next year. I know Adrian wants to reflect the needs and aspirations of all our members - that's seniors as well as juniors - so if you have any (preferably realistic) proposals you'd like to make,  please contact Adrian sooner rather than later.

04-09-08 John Wankowski has taken over as senior kit monitor.

07-07-08 URGENT - Volunteers needed for Culford Triathlon - 27th July

We need approximately 40 race day volunteers for the Culford Triathlon to run smoothly.  Currently only 17 people have emailed their confirmation for race day, which is insufficient to run the race.

So this is a big plea to club members to offer their support for the race on Sunday 27th July by volunteering to help. Could people please contact Derrick Smith ASAP at  derrick.smith@bt.com to volunteer their help.

Note - we have plenty of volunteers for race set up on the Saturday. It is race day itself that needs more volunteers.

Club championships - we had a very successful time of it at the Norwich triathlon, bringing home a major podium place and numerous age-group wins.  Well done to everybody - even the club member who thought it was a horse race.
If you were there, please send me a paragraph or two (or more) for ITCH...

Tour de France mini-league - Ant "Swiss Tony" Birt has set up an "Ipswich Tri Club" mini-league in Eurosport's fantasy TdF competition.  If you're interested, register and submit a team at http://fantasy.tour-de-france.eurosport.com/ and then contact Ant with some urgency (or you'll miss out on points).

Ipswich bike club have been able to secure Bentwaters Park for a closed circuit road race event on the 13th July 2008 (Bentwaters Park is situated off the A1152 between Woodbridge and Tunstall, just south east of Rendlesham.) Entries will be on the line only. The first race starts at 12:15.
For more information please contact the organiser, Paul Driver pd@pauldriver.co.uk or
on 07770388993.
There might be more information on the IBC website.

02-07-08 ITCH league correction - the version shown in ITCH used the wrong tariff - the "long" tariff - for the IM70.3 instead of the "middle" tariff. This has been corrected in my "current standings" master file, which now also shows the 2007 totals so you can see how you're improving.

12-05-08 Reminder that this Thursday (15th May) is a turbo/run session. Please let Steve dB know if you are likely to attend but need to borrow a turbo so he can ensure enough turbos are available for those who need one.
05-05-08 2008 ITCH League & club championship. Many league events are now already full but there are still places in the Norwich triathlon (see http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100057) which we are using as our club championship decider. However, please do not leave it too late to enter - this month's 220 magazine included a leaflet advertising the event as part of a wider Norwich festival so I expect this will quickly fill as well.

31-03-08 ITCH for March 2008 viewable on-line.

April junior training day cancelled - there have been very few confirmed bookings for the training programme so far, so Adrian has had to cancel the first training day, which had been scheduled for Sunday 13th April, at Framlingham College. At the moment Adrian is still planning to go ahead with the remaining three training days in May, June & July at Woodbridge School.

14-03-08 This weekend's swimming (+ bike) - Steve dB is ringing people on his call list but please note that tomorrow's swimming will include an option to be counted & timed over 1500m, which is a superb chance to "baseline" this season's training. (At least one lane will be available for people following their own schedule.)  Steve & others are then planning to ride the Ipswich duathlon route, starting from the bottom of Wherstead Hill (near the Oyster reach/Ostrich pub) at 10:30.  This is an informal ride but they will try and pair people up so you can go at your own speed.
10-03-08 Junior training - see titch section for application form for the programme of four training days timed to lead up to the Framlingham junior triathlon in August 2008.

May 4th Junior Aquathon (swim, run) at Harwich Dovercourt pool - we have been invited to participate in a three-way challenge match against East Essex triathlon club and Harwich swimming/running club.  If you are interested in competing for Ipswich triathlon club, please contact Adrian.

06-03-08 2008 ITCH League - events finalised.
03-03-08 2008 subscriptions - please make sure you download and return the 2008 application form when joining or renewing your membership (one of the links on the web page had been pointing to an old membership form). Thank you.
07-02-08 Swiss ball session is now 21st February at Greshams, replacing the originally-scheduled run.  There will be a session charge of £3.50 - contact Swiss (An)tony Birt for further information.
01-02-08 Junior training programme - Adrian has secured venues for four dates for triathlon training days: April 13th, May 10th, June 22nd & July 20th. The dates have been chosen to let you train every month in build up to the club's Junior Triathlon race at Framlingham on the 24th of August, whilst avoiding known dates for junior races in the Eastern region.  Further details in www.ipswich-tri.org/titch ...
30-01-08 ITCH for January 2008 published.

Have you renewed your membership for 2008?
If you have lost the one Simon sent you, download a membership form and send it in now. Please note that we have reviewed subscriptions for 2008 and they are now Seniors £15, Juniors £5 and Family £20.

17-01-08 Swiss ball session postponed - Tony has had to postpone the swiss ball session planned for tonight (Thursday 17th Jan) at Greshams, following some problem with rooms.
The intention now is to have the swiss ball session in February.

08-01-08

Waveney & Norwich events both open

(Note that there is also a Norwich Junior event on 5th July, and a Sprint event on 6th July)

Please make sure that when you are asked for your club that you enter as "Ipswich Triathlon Club", not just as "Ipswich" otherwise it gets difficult to find people in the results amongst other Ipswich clubs such as Jaffa, Ipswich Bike Club etc.

The club committee won't be formally discussing the clubs championships (& league) until Thursday this week but I'm guessing that we'll be sticking with Norwich Standard as the club championships, and will keep Waveney in the league seeing as how it has been so popular.

18-11-007

What, no race reports? - After a BUMPER OKTOBERFEST issue, you’ve clearly all gone home to rest of something! Apart from a few pointers at cold packs, dangerous places, etc I do not appear to have received a single race report or similar contribution for November’s ITCH. So I’ll hold off publishing to give you a chance to send in any of those items you’d been meaning to write!
Meanwhile:

We have a new Chairman, and a race committee…
The AGM voted in Nick Collinson as Chairman and me (Charlie Stannett) as regional rep (John Gabriel is leaving the area and has resigned from the club) but otherwise the committee remains Steve dB & Kate Stannett as captains, Simon Palmer secretary, Nik Bestow treasurer, and Adrian Green junior/development. I will continue with communications.  You will recall that Nick was Chairman in 2006.
We have also formed a core “race committee” to share the load of organising events – more in ITCH when it comes out but if you’re interested in committing time to this, contact Simon Palmer. (Note – the committee won’t be doing everything! You will still need to nominate an event where you will help.)

I am trying to work out which events to include in the ITCH league for 2008.

·       It appears the Ironman UK and Vitruvian are now on the same weekend. The Vitruvian is on Saturday 6th September, which makes it an ideal warm-up for Ironman UK which is on Sunday 7th September.  Entries are already open for Ironman – see www.ironmanuk.com – and open for the Vitruvian on December 1st.
I already know of three people going for IMUK, and there is also already a lot of e-mail flying around encouraging people to enter the Vitruvian.

·       But there is also a possibility that Clacton will be plumping for the same weekend in September so – what to do, what to do?

·       However, for those of you – Steve, Dave – who do like trying two events in one weekend, Harwich will be holding a triathlon weekend on June 21st & 22nd 2008, featuring a standard (“Olympic”) distance open-water event as well as their popular pool-based sprint event – I am minded to feature both of these.  Entries already open - http://www.harwichrunners.co.uk/triathlon/index.php

·       The ever popular shortie Waveney is listed as 11-May-08 on www.ebta.co.uk – this filled up quickly this year
·       Grays has moved to 29-Jun-08, which is the same date as Norwich Olympic so, if we repeat our use of Norwich as our club championship, I will NOT feature Grays.

·       I know of three people already entered for the Ironman 70.3 UK at Wimbleball.  If you are thinking of doing this and are seriously committed to the idea of sharing transport, Nick is willing to look into organising a minibus or something – so let us know.

·       We really do not want to feature Culford in the league if it means people enter rather than help run it.  On the other hand it is a superb event for people just joining the sport, so I might see if there is a way of including it but only for recently joined members.

·       What say you?

3. Foolish things

·       Although three club members have already entered it, the league will NOT include the Thames Meander – it isn’t a triathlon! (but if there any other Meander-fools interested in a 54 mile training jog in February, Sue, see www.thamesmeander.com )

·       Word on the streets is that all male places in the Norseman have already been taken. One Mr Copland is planning to be there again!

03-11-007 Constitution - click here to download corrected copy of constitution (includes amendments from 2006 AGM)

pre-AGM run - There will be a run session immediately before the AGM. We'll be leaving Greshams at 6:15 *prompt*, which will allow time for a 45 minute run and a shower before the AGM starts at 7:30. The route is open to negotiation but in the absence of any other suggestions it will be a repeat of last week's 'Shell Garage' run.

Ironman UK - The official Ironman UK TV show will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 8.25am on Sunday 4th November.  To tie in with that, entries have just opened for pre-registered people for next year's Ironman UK on 7th September 2008. See http://www.ironmanuk.com/ but do not hang around if you want to enter - I gather they had more people pre-registered than they had places.

Cross-country on Sunday - Nik Bestow has spotted that Ipswich are playing Norwich in Norwich on Sunday so you might need to allow a bit more time to get to Fritton Lake.

28-10-007 Waveney cross-country - the venue for next week's "Waveney" cross-country fixture, on 4th November, is confirmed at Fritton Lake Country World, which is on the A143 between Beccles and Gt Yarmouth.  No entrance fee to the park is required but please note that no dogs are allowed in the park. Note also that the Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft will be closed that weekend so avoid Lowestoft & Oulton Broad.
Seniors - one large lap of approx 5.8 miles; spikes NOT recommended (some hard surfaces on parts of the course)
Juniors - one lap of approx 2 miles; spikes NOT recommended.
Websites: www.waveneyvalley.org and  www.somerleyton.co.uk (for Fritton Lake info).

27-10-007 Cross-country - reminder that the cross-country begins tomorrow, 28th October, at Framlingham.  The venue for next week's "Waveney" cross-country fixture, on 4th November, appears to be Fritton Lake. (Unfortunately the SCAA website has been off-air for some weeks now.)

Swimming training - there was no swimming this morning (we don't usually get the use of the pool during half-terms). Steve did tell everybody he saw but if you went and were disappointed, then apologies.  Reminder that there is no swimming on 3rd November.

Ipswich Triathlon Club AGM - the minutes from the 2006 AGM can be downloaded in PDF format, as can the constitution as it stood going into that meeting.
Click here for constitution as at October 2006.

23-10-007

Ipswich Triathlon Club AGM - will be held on Thursday evening 8th November at Greshams.  Please try to arrive at 7:30 for a 7:45 start.
The agenda will include:
election of committee members; a resolution to change the subscriptions structure.
Nominations for committee posts should be sent to Simon Palmer by Thursday 1st November and include the name of the (willing) nominee, a proposer and at least one seconder. Some - but not all - existing committee members have said that they will be willing to stand if no alternative nominations are made, but will still need proposing and seconding.
Please note that the AGM cannot be used by members to vote in changes to club rules. That is the role of the committee. However, members can propose changes to the constitution as well as voting in a new committee. If you wish to propose a change to the club's constitution you must submit your proposed resolution to Simon Palmer, again by Thursday 1st November.
The formal business is likely to last no more than two hours maximum. A "third hour" will be made available for open discussion to allow members to make their views known to the members of the incoming committee.
A buffet will be provided.

10-10-007 ITCH for October now on-line - Contributors this month include: Antony Birt, Steve dB, Jackie Chubb, Nick Collinson (league), Ann Fish, Grayhame Fish, John Gabriel, Alistair Guite, Wendy Quantrill, Steve Robinson, Susannah Rosenburg, Kate Stannett, John Wankowski, Graham White,..., and the ITCH League: the final standings.
26-09-007

Abject apologies. For reasons which one or two people know about I have totally timed out with getting September's ITCH completed so, given how close we are to October, I shall carry everything over to a bumper October issue.

Thursday sessions at Greshams: Sep 27th - Speed session (Derrick to take); Oct 4th - Dales road run; Oct 11 - Valley road hill session; Oct 18 - 4/5 mile road run (with optional extra bit at the end)

Saturday swim sessions – Steve dB tells me: Sep 29th is now confirmed as ON. October 6th is OFF; 13th & 20th ON; 27th OFF. November 3rd OFF (but there might be another excuse to get wet near Ipswich), 10th, 17th & 24th ON. December 1st, 8th and 15th ON.

Social events on/being planned:
Fri 28th Sep “Fat Hen” playing “Keep on running” & other stuff at the Black Horse, Stratford St Mary. (blatant ad)
Sat 20th October “anything that dazzles” pub night at the Woolpack.
Provisional date for Christmas munchies Friday 14th December.

Facebook – Adrian Green is kicking off a “facebook” area. If you want to be invited to join, e-mail Adrian at juniors@ipswich-tri.org giving your e-mail address.  Once it gets off the ground we’ll add a link from the formal website.

My e-mail address: some people have been using my work e-mail address to contact me. Subject to some local confirmation, that address will fail soon so please use my club addresses.

30-08-007 ITCH League: all to play for - after much trawling of websites, cutting & pasting etc, we are finally able to show the current standings as we go into the final three eligible events.  If your results in one of the events is not in there but you know you completed it and in accordance with the league rules, then let us know the event, your race number, your position and time. Click here for current standings.

Turbo-training 6th September - if you are coming to this session then please bike computers if you have them as they'll be handy for measuring the planned "1km" bike efforts.

Website FORBIDDEN messages - some pages in the "events" area of the website went missing behind a "FORBIDDEN" error message. Our service providers have fixed the problem in as far as it effected the duathlon instructions and last year's junior results pages but please let me know if you find other pages missing.

Attachment filters - some members seem to be having problem receiving ITCH in the HTML format I send out as e-mail, with it being converted to a "WINMAIL.DAT" file. If anybody else knows why this is happening please let me know! But rest assured I always try to make sure that ITCH is published on the site before I send out the e-mail.

26-08-007 Ipswich duathlon volunteers - the competitors' instructions can now be downloaded from this site (see link above).   You are strongly advised to read these instructions yourself. Any changes will notified at the race day briefing.
25-08-007 Junior triathlon - individuals' results are on-line (see above) except in the case of eight-year olds who times are no longer recorded. Contact Simon Palmer if you need to know more. Meanwhile, thanks to all volunteers who turned out and well done to all who raced - I certainly found some of those performances inspirational.

ITCH for September - work commitments mean that I might not now be able to compile September's ITCH until AFTER the Vitruvian, so there is still time for you to send in further race reports.

Good luck to people competing at Clacton - I know "Boggy" Copland & Steve dB are both attempting the double - and also to everybody competing in the Vitruvian, which incorporates the national middle-distance championships.

Cyclo-cross training - anybody reading this month's 220 magazine will understand the usefulness of cyclo-cross to certain triathlon events.  John Gabriel informs me that if anyone is interested in competing in cyclo-cross this winter, IBC training sessions start on Saturday 1 September at Foxhall Stadium, meet at 9.45 for 10.00am start, finish 12 noon, cost £2.  Anyone interested in the East Anglian Cyclo-Cross League, visit the website at http://easterncross.users.btopenworld.com/ for details of races, costs etc.

15-08-007 ITCH for August now on-line - contributors this month too numerous to mention!

Junior triathlon - we still need a few more volunteers. Please contact Simon Palmer if you can help.

11-08-007 Culford - some minor corrections published

Junior triathlon & duathlon both full - waiting list in operation.

Thursday evening training sessions

      Aug 16th        Fynn Valley run
Aug 23rd        Hill running session, Christchurch Park
Aug 30th        Four-five mile road run (use as sharpener for Clacton)
Sep 6th         Turbo/run session (use as sharpener for Waveney)
Sep 13th        Hill-running session, Valley Road
Sep 20th        Four-five mile road run

Swimming - the session originally planned for Saturday 25th August has had to be cancelled.

22-07-007 Final junior training day - August 19th - please liaise with Isabel about the final training day which is on 19th August at Eyke primary school on the A1152.  (If you're looking it up by postcode, try IP12 2QW.)  Contact Isabel on sport@sinkfarm.com or on her mobile which is 07970 937899.

New ladies captain Kate Stannett forgot to include her contact details in ITCH. You can contact Kate by e-mail to kate@ipswich-tri.org or by telephoning 01206-298888.

Training - I've tidied up the training information pages so that they shouldn't "time out".
18-07-007 ITCH for July now on-line - contributors this month include: Steve dB, John Gabriel, Mary Lumkin (photographs), Brian McGeeney, Wendy Quantrill, Kate Stannett & Julia Yelloly.

We have the special bike-training session.

But, most importantly, we still need more volunteers - especially for the duathlon.  John Gabriel writes about how this may yet have to be cancelled if not enough people put their hand up.

I will try and get the August issue out as soon as possible after the London/Antwerp distractions - deadline for any other reports midnight Sunday 5th August.

12-07-007

Correction - there is NO swimming on 14th July - reminder that swimming goes from 9:00 to 10:00.

12-07-007

Club championships - the winners of the club championships were: Male – Dave Copland, Male vet – Mark Bowditch,  Male super vet – Derrick Smith; Female – Sam Fulcher, Female vet – Julia Yelloly, Female super vet – Maria Reynolds.

Saturday morning swimming sessions back on – July 14th & 21st (see below for complementary bike session later that same morning); August 11th & 25th. There will also be dates in September & later, which will be in ITCH.

Bike training special – July 21st at Foxhall Road (IBC members will be familiar with this).  It will cost you £2 and you need to be there for 11.30 am prompt, there being Foxhall Stadium, entrance off Foxhall Road. You will need your bike, kit and helmet (no helmet, no ride). Activities will be general track cycling, riding in groups, speed, sprints etc all on slightly banked concrete circuit, road bikes essential.

Thursday evening sessions: 12/07   Bike ride, 19/07   Fynn Valley run, 26/07   Turbo run session, 02/08   4 mile road run, 09/08   Drill session on playing field

Volunteers – we are still desperately short of volunteers, especially for the Ipswich duathlon which may yet have to be cancelled if not enough people come forward to help.  There will be more about this in ITCH but if you have not yet put your hand up – or if you are willing to help at more than one event – please get in touch with John Gabriel (for duathlon), Dave Copland (for Culford) and/or Simon Palmer (for junior).

28-06-007 Club championships July 1st & extended club night July 5th - his is a final reminder that the Ipswich triathlon club championships will be decided this coming Sunday, 1st July, by members' performances in the Norwich triathlon.  It is planned to recognise the various winners as part of an extended club night on Thursday, 5th July, at Greshams, when we will also be presented with our "ClubMark". [click for more details]
13-06-007 Charlie (webmeister) going old tech for a while - my current broadband access ceases sometime around 20th June and I will have only limited e-mail access until I can get new access set up. In particular I won't be able to look at attachments.

Problems receiving ITCH? At least one major local employer seems to have started blocking ITCH.  If you did not receive ITCH please let me know - I may need to start sending just a notification without the full attachment. Alternatively, do you have a private e-mail address which isn't blocked?

Reminder of club championships - I intend sending a fuller reminder before my broadband goes but do not forget that our championships will be decided on 1st July at Norwich. The committee is looking into awarding the trophies at Greshams shortly afterwards, probably 5th July.

11-06-007 ITCH for June now on-line
Contributors this month include: Antony Birt, Steve de Boltz, William Catchpole, John Gabriel, Sarah Miller, Charlie Stannett, Ross Welton.
We need more volunteers for events.
We also have the chance of some "world class" coaching at a training camp right on our door step.

17-05-007 Ladies captaincy - only one nomination (Kate Stannett) had been received in time for May's committee meeting but, given the late notice, we are keeping nominations open until June's committee meeting when a decision will be made.  If you want to stand for ladies captain please let club secretary Simon Palmer know as soon as possible.

Swimming dates - the following dates are when we've got the pool booked for the next couple of months.
  19th May, Swimming.
26th May, No swimming, half term.
  2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th June, Swimming.
  7th, 14th, 21st July. Swimming.
That's it for now. Steve is recommending that we do not try to get pool over the school summer holidays as it won't cost in with so many of us racing or going off on our own holidays.

If you want to be on a ring round list for notification of changes at short notice then let Steve have your number. Steve is on 07795 564322.

Reminders

  • Lord Nelson, Ipswich Friday 18th May - even if you haven't told Laura you're coming you can turn up on spec for a beer and some nosh but don't blame the chef if he's run out of your choice of meal!
  • Alton Water recovery run - Saturday 19th May - timed to allow you to get there from the swimming session; scheduled to help you recover from the Nelson bash!

Club training sessions on Thursdays at 7pm at Greshams, Tuddenham Road, Ipswich

  • May 24th - in lieu of the original road-based mini-duathlon, there will be now be a turbo-based run-bike session, so bring your bikes!
  • May 31st - bike ride (groups according to capability)
  • Jun 7th - hill-running session in Christchurch Park

Club kit - the form on the website has still been showing Heather's old address. Apologies. Send your orders for the red & black to Heather Collinson by e-mailing kit@ipswich-tri.org or by ringing 01473-620651 - not by e-mailing ITCH. Heather's correct address is 14 Spindler Close, Kesgrave, Ipswich, IP5 2DA.

Tag rugby & social evening - John Gabriel is offering to arrange a "tag rugby & social evening" at Greshams on Thursday 5th July (to coincide with the club championships on the preceding Sunday).  Tag rugby is a "non-contact form of rugby played by mixed (sex) teams of seven a-side, the object being to score tries (just like the real thing), the difference being there are no scrums or line out, no kicking and no contact.
Clearly John needs at least 14 people interested to make it viable so if you are interested could you let John know at club nights or by e-mail/phone.

09-05-007 Oops - thanks to John Gabriel for pointing out that I had been given and had published the Walden entry form rather than the Wattisham entry form in ITCH.  You should find that if you download now you should get the correct information. If it still gives you the Walden information, then go to the SSAFA website - www.ssafa.org.uk/branch/suffolk.asp - where you can definitely find the right information.

Visitors to titch may have found a broken link to the distances table. This should have been fixed now as well.

07-05-007 Ladies captain Helen Farrow has stepped down for personal reasons.
Please contact Simon Palmer as soon as possible if you wish to stand for the role.

ITCH for May now on-line - contributors include Nik Bestow, Steve dB, John Gabriel, Adrian Green, Sarah Miller, Simon Palmer, Susannah Rosenberg & Laura Williams (social event May 18th - urgent reply needed by Friday 11th).

Stradbroke Run/Bike Junior Training Event planned for 19th of May 2007 - see titch

10-04-007 ITCH for April now on-line - contributions include "how not to shave nanoseconds off your transition time" by Ross Welton, and loads of photos.
28-03-007 Final, final reminder – have you renewed your membership? If not, download an application form NOW while you think about it.

Forthcoming swimming sessions at Woolverstone - school holidays are upon us which means the current pool availability is:

  • March 31st & April 7th - NO swimming
  • April 14th - swimming likely BUT you are advised to check with Steve dB before cycling a long distance
  • April 21st & 28th - swimming as usual (be there for a 9:00am start)
  • May 5th, 12th & 19th - swimming as usual

If you want to be on a ring round list for notification of changes at short notice then let Steve have your number.
Steve is on 07795 564322

Junior training events - the formal session at Framlingham on April 15th is filling fast, but about to be opened to non-members. So sign up now if you don't want to be disappointed.  Further information will start to appear on the "titch" pages shortly.
With the less formal events you must still let Ady know if you intend coming - he will cancel events rather than waste club resource if not enough people have committed to coming.
Contact Ady by e-mailing juniors@ipswich-tri.org or ringing 01379-388855.

Club kit - please remember that club kit is ordered through Heather Collinson by e-mailing kit@ipswich-tri.org or by ringing 01473-620651 - not by e-mailing ITCH.
Heather is having some trouble putting together a sufficiently large spring order to meet the minimum order requirements we have with our supplier. So, if you are still only thinking about ordering kit - maybe you've spotted that your winter jacket has worn a bit thin in places and might need replacing before the autumn, or maybe you realise that you would have done more winter mileage if only you'd got around to ordering those fantastic club thermal bib tights - please give Heather a call sooner rather than later.

Club championship - do not forget to get your entry in for the club championships – the Norwich triathlon on July 1st - by visiting www.entrycentral.net - and entering direct. We do NOT have any special entry route.
Please - when you are asked to enter your club name, do not enter simply as "Ipswich" - use "Ipswich Triathlon Club"
On last count there were just 37 people entered as "Ipswich triathlon club" members - and the event is already 70% full.

ITCH reminder - please try and get things for the next issue of ITCH to me by close of play Monday 2nd April.

And don't forget the club training sessions on Thursdays at 7pm at Greshams, Tuddenham Road, Ipswich -  this week (29th Mar) is an intervals session. Derrick Smith will take us for some short sharp sprinting/running/jogging probably on Borrowdale Avenue. (And if you can't make the training, then why not join us for a beer or some food from about 8pm onwards.)

14-03-007 ITCH for March - somewhat later than hoped for and with some expected items missing, but this is now on its way to you. Note that I have NOT had a chance to update the calendar of events so do check the national and regional triathlon websites.
Contributions this mo
nth gratefully received from Ady Green, Lauren Clipstone, Steve de Boltz and Julia Yelloly - and some excellent news about Will Meadows.

Have you renewed your membership? If you've lost your form, download another copy from the website.
(If you're a senior member you need only print & complete the front of the form. The additional information on the rear of the form will be needed for any junior members. Membership subscriptions continue, in effect, to be subsidised by the events we hold which is why you must undertake to help crew at least one of our events as part of your membership subscription.)
Subscriptions were due from January. If you do not renew your membership by end of March your membership will lapse.

06-03-007 titch - for juniors - at long last I have begun to build a new section on the website aimed at our junior members. If you want to add the short-cut URL to your bookmarks, it is www.ipswich-tri.org/titch - it should also begin to appear in the website navigation bar at the top of most pages, but you may need to refresh your browser (if you are using Internet Explorer, press the F5 key).
06-02-007 Swim training - we have been told that the problem with the pool has now been fixed, and that we can have the pool again for our Saturday morning sessions. This includes the next two weeks which were originally closed for half-term. Remember, be ready poolside for a 9:00 start at the Ipswich High School in Woolverstone. If you want to be on a ring round list so I can notify at short notice then they need to let Steve de Boltz have a number. Steve is on 07795 564322

Alton Water run on Sat 10th Feb - Susannah Rosenberg et al are planning an informal single-lap run, starting at 10:30, so you can come along after your swim.
Dave Copland plans to do 18 miles (1 long lap - 10 miles, and one normal lap - 8 miles) at around 7:00 to 7:12 minute pace.
The café is open at the weekend now, so everyone is welcome to come along and do their preferred distance, and then regroup in the café over mugs of tea and perhaps a slice of cake...
Please contact Susannah at s.rosenberg@mail.com or on 01473 250713, especially if you're swimming first, so she knows who to wait for.

Thursday evening sessions - reminder that these are at Greshams sports & social club (yes, there are showers as well as Adnams and pretty decent grub) on the Tuddenham Road, and you should be there in time for a 7:00 start:

08th Feb - Drill session on grass area outside club (as long as we can get the lights on).
15th Feb - Hill session on Valley Road
22nd Feb - 4.5 mile run on level ground

Junior training event - more details to follow but this is scheduled for April 15th at Framlingham which makes it ideal for any junior thinking of entering the junior triathlon in August.

Training routes planner - the London marathon people have been publicising a free on-line route planner, at http://www.realbuzz.com/flmroutes/ which I think it uses Google maps & photographs. You have to "register" and I've not tried it myself but William Catchpole thinks it is "efffing brilliant"...

05-02-007 February 2007 ITCH now available on-line.
Contributors this month include Ant Birt - Steve de Boltz - Heather Collinson - Nick Collinson - Michelle Constable - Dave Copland - John Gabriel - Simon Lock - Sarah Miller - Steve Robinson - Derrick Smith
.
Don't forget to renew your membership!

31-01-007 Entries are now open for Culford - this will count toward the ITCH league but please remember we need volunteers to make it happen so if you are doing it, ask a friend to volunteer on your behalf.
And if you've already done it a few times...

Have you renewed your membership? If you've lost your form, click here to download another copy.
(If you're a senior member you need only print & complete the front of the form.)

29-01-007

Ipswich tri - BSE XC at Nowton, training, plus ITCH - any more?
I’ve held back compiling ITCH for a couple of days – Steve has hit a slight delay on getting the cross-country league updates.  Meanwhile:

  • please note that Sunday’s cross-country at Bury St Edmunds is back at the Nowton venue, and not at Culford
  • there is still no immediate sign of the swimming pool re-opening, but do let Steve dB know your phone number if you want to be on his ring-round list for late updates
  • this Thursday’s evening session at Greshams is likely to be a 5.5 mile run through the Dales area of Ipswich
  • do not forget to renew your membership – I’ll prune my mailing list after the February mailing.
PLEASE – if you are reading this, you clearly have e-mail, so don’t ask for a paper copy!
  • do not forget to get your entry in for the club championships – the Norwich triathlon
  • vis-à-vis the ITCH league, the early Waveney sprint event is full but they are putting on a second event in September.  How many people are likely to be doing that?

And, seeing as how I’m waiting for Steve to get his update on the cross-country, I’ll hold the cut-off for ITCH until midnight Friday 2nd Feb – so it’s not too late for you to submit any further stories for the February issue.

19-01-07
Swimming cancelled - Steve dB has just been told (Friday morning) that Woolverstone pool has had to be closed because of contaminated water. It remains shut until further notice.

XC reminder - So why not get wet at the league cross-country on Sunday instead? Haughley Park, near Stowmarket - starts at 11am, costs £3 per person payable on the day (find Steve Robinson so he can register you as part of the team) and you must wear club kit. (see http://www.stowmarketstriders.org.uk/RaceDiary/SuffolkCountyXC.htm for further details and a link to a map)

the ITCH league - the committee has endorsed the "ITCH league" on a trial basis.  Click here for full details

02-01-07 January 2007 ITCH now available on-line.
Contributors this month include Denis Spashett, Steve de Boltz, Susannah Rosenberg, John Gabriel - who introduces a generous discount on turbo-trainers courtesy of 53-12 - and Steve Robinson.
Don't forget to renew your membership!

2006 & earlier

22-12-06 Run & bike training - following a very low take-up, John Gabriel is cancelling his arrangements for Saturday ride-outs & Sunday runs. However...
Dave Copland & Susannah Rosenberg are leading an informal run around Alton Water TOMORROW (23rd December) at 10:30. (Sorry for late notice - this came about on Thursday evening - but note that Susannah often arranges informal Alton runs, but normally on a Friday.)
John is willing to organise a series of group turbo sessions over the winter, but only if there is sufficient committed interest. I will put further information in ITCH but these will be on Wednesday evenings in Felixstowe, starting 10th January.
Also - I am assured by Laura "who are you calling lardy" Williams that there will be a training session as usual at Greshams on the Thursday between Christmas and New Year. Hard core or what?

Swim training - Steve dB says: "swimming will resume on 6th January unless otherwise instructed. If people want to be on a ring round list so I can notify at short notice then they need to let me [Steve] have a number. Steve de Boltz mobile is 07795 564322"

Affiliated runners £10, unattached runners £12m, any cheques payable to St Helena Hospice.
The course is based on last year's but may need a slight tweak to avoid some water-logging - but I'm assured it won't be more than 5 miles.

New Year's Day - option 2 - Wymondham 10km
If you prefer tarmac and fancy a drive "up north", there's the Wymondham New Years Day 10km - see http://www.wymondhamac.org.uk

Cross-country Suffolk county championships at Hadleigh on 7th January - remember you have to enter in advance for these - see http://www.suffolkathletics.org.uk/07%20CCC%20Individual%20entry.pdf - and please let Steve  Robinson know on 01284-760392.

Culford - after some initial doubts over availability of the venue, the date for Culford is now looking very likely to be confirmed as 29th July.  Entries are not yet open but when they do open, Dave Copland will inform (by email) everyone who entered last year and supplied an email address.

Club kit - Heather Collinson will be placing the next order with our supplier in February so start thinking about your summer requirements now.

British Triathlon Eastern Region - reminder that the Eastern Region AGM is on the 28th Jan 2007 at 12.00 at the Lord Butler Centre in Saffron Walden

ITCH League - watch out for details of a league based very closely on the 2006 club championships format.  Full details still being discussed but the idea will be to encourage a good, recognisable club turn out at a number of selected events at various diverse triathlons including Norwich.

Membership for 2007 - watch out for a membership renewal form popping through your letter box in January.  Additional information will be needed for any junior members.  Membership subscriptions continue, in effect, to be subsidised by the events we hold which is why you must undertake to help crew at least one of our events as part of your membership subscription.

14-12-06 Club championships 2007 - following the discussion at the AGM, the committee has agreed that, for 2007, the club championship will be decided on a one race basis. The race chosen is the Norwich Triathlon on July 1st, which is a standard ("Olympic") distance race. Entries are now open - visit www.entrycentral.net - and enter direct. We do NOT have any special entry route at this stage.
Hint - when you are asked to enter your club name, type in "Ip" and wait a second. You should then be able to select "Ipswich Triathlon Club" from a "drop-down" which appears. Please do not enter simply as "Ipswich".

Ipswich duathlon 2007 - entries have also now opened for our own duathlon. Again, visit www.entrycentral.net to enter on-line. Further details will be published shortly.

Swimming cancelled until further notice - we shall try and get more details to put on to the website but essentially Steve de Boltz has been told that the Wolverstone pool has had to be closed and will remain out of action certainly until 2007, so no more sessions for this year.
Please - if you know anybody who comes to the sessions, could you mention this to them. Not everybody has internet access.
Steve is our point of contact with the pool - Steve's mobile is 07795 564 322.

There is a maximum of around 30 people so it's first come first serve.  The meal is 7pm - 9pm but anyone who is unable to make the meal (or if it becomes over-subscribed) will of course be very welcome to come down for a drink.

27-10-06 Club AGM & Constitution - please make every effort to come to the AGM on November 19th (See ITCH for further details).
One of the items of business will be to approve our club constitution. Please download a copy and read it before the meeting.
Another item will be to vote for committee members. You can see the note below about nominating yourself, but you might also want to look at the out-going committee members & their "job descriptions" to see what is involved.

BTA AGM - if you are a member of the BTA, remember that your AGM is at Loughborough on 5th November.

Flora London Marathon 2007 - if you intend applying for a club place please read the criteria we use for awarding them (assuming we get some this year!).

Club championships table - this has been updated, probably for the penultimate time before the awards are given out. It is looking good for Graham and Kate at the moment...

Suffolk cross-country series - read October's ITCH for further details but please remember that the first event is at FRAMLINGHAM CASTLE on Sunday 29th OCTOBER.
Enter on the day in good time for the start time of 11.00am - the RACE HQ IS THE SPORTS GROUND NEXT TO THE POLICE STATION ON THE B1120 BADINGHAM RD.
We need 10 for a team, 7 men and 3 ladies.
There is also a junior race - you have to be 11years old on the day on the race--distance about 2miles and 5 for the senior race. It is £3.00 for seniors, juniors are free!

Ironman UK on Channel 4 - if you are thinking of entering IMUK next year, then try and catch Channel 4's "Adrenalin Rush" at 7:55am on Sunday morning before you go to the cross-country at Framlingham. The programme features the 2006 IMUK at Sherborne.

Ipswich bicycle club address amended on Links page.

9-10-06 Change of website hosting arrangements. If you can read this then I have completed a transfer of the site to a new service provider.  This does NOT mean that the main website address has changed but it does means that if you made any bookmarks of individual pages then you will find they will fail to work over time.  It might also mean that some links are broken.  If you find a broken link, please let me know. Many thanks.
8-10-06 Nominations are invited for posts on the Ipswich triathlon club committee 2007
To propose yourself and qualify for election you must be a member Ipswich Triathlon Club (ITC). Download the nomination form then complete and send t to Simon Palmer by 31st October.

Saturday morning swim/run sessions. Dave Copland is negotiating the use of the pool changing & shower facilities so that we can follow the swim sessions with a run.  Assuming we can do this, the first opportunity will be Saturday 4th November. (Remember that the pool is closed to us for two weeks after October 14th.)

Were you at the Tarpley 10? Somebody described as "a club representative" picked up some Suffolk County Championships awards on behalf of some members - but nobody seems to know who that representative was, or where the trophies have ended up.

26-9-06 Ipswich duathlon photographs - Both Brian McGeeney and Darren Hatcher took some excellent photographs at the Ipswich duathlon - they are on Darren's website & Brian's website.

John Gabriel is organising some regular Sunday runs round Alton Water Leisure Park over the winter months starting on Sunday 15 October and held weekly except when it's a Suffolk League Cross Country race. Intention is to circumnavigate the lake which is about 8 miles, all off road and we'll do it in different directions each week to add a bit of variety. There are a number of cut-throughs / add-ons available so we're not always doing the same tracks. Alton Water is a lovely venue, especially early in the morning and has the added bonus of the café at the end for a welcome cuppa and chat. Pace will depend on who attends but it's not likely to be high unless we want it to be! It'll be great preparation training for next season and will compliment the cut & thrust pace of the cross country races very well.
Meet at car park near café at 9.00 am, don't forget your £2 for parking ticket (£1 in winter months) or why not buy an annual season ticket for £10 which covers 2 cars for 12 months (you can only park one at a time!).

For those who don't go to the swim sessions John is also planning some long bike rides over the winter months on Saturdays, leaving the front of Felixstowe Great Eastern Square at 8.30 am. Rides will take place whatever the weather (no whimps) so if you are up for a 2-3 hours jaunt (maybe longer) in the Suffolk countryside they will start on Saturday 14 October. If you are coming by car you can park free in car park at rear of Solar store near Homebase. Some rides may include a café stop. Anyone coming along must be self sufficient e.g. bring pump, spare tubes, correct clothing, nutrition etc.

2006 Please refer to ITCH for notices

Kit update - pockets In answer to  questions from members, we have been told by Torelli that we can have pockets on Tri Tops / Suits @£4 extra per unit. There are no plans at present to allow for more support in the women's tops, the main issue in this is the major variability in sizes and shapes of women. Torelli recommend wearing correctly sized sports bra beneath the suit / top.

New LINKS - I've added links to Clacton tri and to Wiggle on the LINKs page

Eastern Region 2004 Series Champions

The AGM of the EBTA (the Eastern Region of the British Triathlon Association) was held at St Albans on Sunday 30th January.
As well as more formal business, the AGM included the prize-giving for the EBTA Main & Sprint Series 2004.
Ipswich triathlon club won both series as well as many of the age group categories [more...].
We want to meet up to distribute age group medals and show off the plate & shield on Thursday evening 10th February at Elmy Cycles, Ipswich - arrive 7:30 for 8:00. Contact Denis Spashett for further details.

Reliability Rides - The early part of each year before the cycling season gets up and running is "reliability" time. This was historically the time when cyclists threw off the dust sheets from their racing steeds and rode out in groups to check and test the reliability of their bikes - hence the term "Reliability Ride". These days it's an informal way of meeting like-minded people wanting to ride in friendly groups. On every occasion there are rides of varying distances and at varying average speeds so you are always with people of your own ability. Distances are usually between 40km and 100km, with average speeds between 14 - 18 mph; well within the capabilities of all tri club members. The shorter events are also ideal for our younger members who will be well looked after by the more experienced riders.

Locally the first of the season is on February 6th, promoted by Wolsey RC with an HQ of Bredfield Village Hall. Cost is minimal - usually around £2 and as it is a British Cycling event it will be covered by insurance. The next is on February 20th promoted by Stowmarket and District CC with an HQ of the Red Cross Hall, Stowmarket, which is located at the railway station. The third event is promoted by the Ipswich BC on February 27th with an event HQ at Playford Village Hall. Most will start the longest rides at 9am and most of the events finish at the HQ about 1pm with tea and cakes and there will be massage available at the Ipswich ride - and a certificate of achievement!

These tried and tested rides are a good opportunity to get in some good cycling, see the Suffolk countryside and meet other cyclists. Go on - give it a go, you will enjoy it!

If you require any further information or advice please email Jeff Irving at bubble.squeek@ntlworld.com

What shall I do with these notices once they've expired? Are they useful for referring back to or can I just delete them?

February "easy brick" - building on the tradition started by Adrian, we are planning an "easy brick" from East Bergholt car park on Saturday 5th February: see "calendar" for further information

January "easy rider" - see earlier e-mail about ride-out from Stradboke, Sunday 9th January.

At last - I have started updating the events calendar for 2005. Please let me know if you're ITCHing...

Adrian Green is organising a slow long ride in two parts from East Bergholt car park on Sat 4th of December. (The car park is in the middle of the village - the heart of Constable’s Country - behind the Red Lion.)

If anyone is interested in either or both options or would like to be picked up on route this can be done - just give Adrian a call or e-mail.

Volunteers sought for research - Andrew Hill is a doctoral student at DeMontfort University and currently a part of a research team led by Professor Howard Hall investigating the motivational consequences of exercise beliefs.
He has asked about possibility of the club participating in this nationwide study. This would involve ten members filling out a questionnaire anonymously (taking approximately 15minutes). Questionnaires will be sent to them, along with prepaid return envelopes.
If you are interested, please contact Andrew direct – e-mailto:AHill@dmu.ac.uk.

Sorry for recent lack of updates - new computer & software! If you are reading this then I have finally got the stuff working again...

Cross-country winter league dates - 31st Oct - Framlingham; 21st Nov - Bungay; 5th  Dec - Woodbridge; 2nd  Jan - Bury (tbc); 13th Feb - Stowmarket. We will be teaming up with Bildeston Bounders & 53-12 but as yet I have no further details - although Steve Robinson probably does.

National league standings - we are currently running 10th out of 19 in the national league, based on scores in the Dambuster (Nick Collinson, Steve Robinson & Gary Matthews), Sherborne (Nick, Gary & Kate Stannett) and London (Steve, Gary & Kate).  [Click here for full tables]

Support the 2012 Olympic bid? If so, you might like to register your support.

Eastern BTA website - we've been asked to publicise the regional BTA website www.ebta.co.uk which would like to carry "things to make it more relevant to triathletes and triathlon clubs in the area."  If you are interested in contributing something - "it could be informative, interesting, amusing, related to triathlon, related to training or even unrelated" - please let me or Simon know.

Eastern Region Sprint Winners! Read it for yourself on the Eastern Region BTA website - "Eastern Region Sprint Series results now available. Congratulations to all, especially Ipswich Tri who came first in the team event..." [read more here]

Main series update - we've been told that we are "still in the top three for the main series, with results from Cambridge, Bedford and Clacton to go.  Please urge your members to enter Clacton, as this is normally a small race which could mean points. Places are still available!"

Events calendar updated with the first of the cross-country events of the autumn beginning to appear.  Also, notice that entries are already being invited for the 2005 London marathon and London triathlon, plus we've heard the usual "half or full" rumours about next year's Ironman UK.

I've started updating the "log" with times received up to and including last weekend's HIMUK times - if I have missed you off anything please let me know.

Club kit - Adrian is putting together an autumn order with the supplier so please contact him with some urgency if you need anything. See club kit section for details.

53-12 have been advised to amend their 10% loyalty discount scheme which will now only apply to purchases which are to do with running. Call 01206 505011 to register and to explain why you need those goggles to help with running into autumn mists...

Entries forms now available for Martlesham Heath 10km and Hadleigh 10 mile road races - see calendar.  Also if you e-mail charlie@ipswich-tri.org I can send you a PDF copy of the Framlingham 10km entry form (which I forgot to bring home to put here).

Culford feedback - Dave Copland writes:

Thanks to everyone involved with this year's Culford Triathlon.  The event went very well, but we can always do better.  With that in mind, please could you take a moment to consider the questions below and send your replies to me at culford@ipswich-tri.org.

I'll collate the replies so we'll get a list of ways to improve next year.  Thanks in advance for your help, and don't be afraid to voice your opinion.

Dave Copland
Race Director

Culford feedback questionnaire

1. How were you involved (e.g. competitor, swim counter, run marshal)?

2. What was especially good about the event?

3. What could be improved?  (To make the race better either for competitors or marshals & helpers.)

4. Any other comments:

Duathlon training session - Tonya (who won the Bungay mid-week 10Km for the ladies) is doing a duathlon training session first week in August, evening to be arranged by mutual consent on the Alton Water course as preparation for National Duathlon Champs.
Anyone wanting to join her would be very welcome as its a lonely session to do on your own!
Call Tonya on 0777 300 7456 or 01473 412291 or email at bubble.squeek@ntlworld.com .

We have some stars in the making - William Meadows came second at Upminster and will possibly be part of the Eastern Region Team going to Liverpool on the 5th September 2004, all in his first season of triathlon.
This is not forgetting another win  in Tristar One for Lauren Clipstone who also is unbeaton this season.

Etape - word on the streets is that Nick did 9h 42mins with Gary about five or six minutes behind him.

Pity poor Dave - Dave Copland came 4th overall in Bedford "return of the traktors" (no, I don't understand either) so missed out on a podium trophy.  Unfortunately one the triumphant three in front of him included the winner of Dave's age group so Dave missed out on that as well.  Even so, congratulations to gazelle man.
And watch out in a forthcoming issue of ITCH for details of the nail-biting Sarah vs. Kate result...

Problems at printers for Stow Friday 5?
Word on the web is that the race numbers for the Stowmarket Friday 5 on 2nd July have been held up at the printers - is this a repeat of the Showmarket printing error...

Promote triathlon at youth games 4th July 2004 Northgate Sports Centre.
Anybody interested in helping advertise Triathlon to youngsters at the youth games Sunday 4th July 2004 at Northgate Sports Centre 9am - 4pm?
With the support of the Eastern Region we hope to have a Dry-Tri to raise money for charity. If you could give any time at all it would help.
Please contact Denis Spashett 01473 270573.

Coaching - we've had early offers of coaching in both swimming technique and cycling set-up and technique.  This is all VERY tentative at the moment but if you're interested then let Simon know.

Culford is pretty much full.  If your entry wasn't on Dave's door mat by June 16th then you probably don't have a place.  However - we still need marshalls.

Entries are now open for Framlingham junior event (Sunday 29th August) and the Ipswich Duathlon (Sunday 26 September).  The Fram event can cater for a total of 100 juniors from ages 8-16 inclusive. The duathlon can cater for 150 lovers of "great views"...

Events - entries for Woodbridge 10km have closed.

Club kit

The first batch of new kit is expected just days before Waveney.
I suggest you contact Adrian if you have kit on order and need it for Waveney itself.

Elmy Cycles Ipswich

Elmy's have for a long time offered a 10% discount to members of local cycling clubs and they tell us they include Ipswich triathlon club in that category, so ask for the discount before you buy.  (The discount is on stuff - technical term - not on their labour charges.)
Worth reminding you that Elmy's have recently opened a "performance" shop across the road from their existing shop to focus on big boys' bikes.

Suffolk cycle show cancelled.

Sweatshop Ipswich

Gail Pryke tells us that Sweatshop "has another Nike Video Analysis Day in store on 29th May including training tips from qualified coach and sports massage. 12.5% discount on all shoes to club members - 15% on purchases over £120.
There will also be

Events - from forward-looking calender into log

I have now begun archiving past months' events from the calendar into a log, adding members results where I have them.

Events calendar - including dates for a team focus on the national & regional leagues

Team captains Nick and Kate are keen that we do well in both the UK National Triathlon & Duathlon League and the Eastern Region Triathlon Series. Events highlighted in yellow on the events calendar are suggestions for mostly local races that we could try and target as a club and could help with our club placing in the national league.

As you are planning your race year, it'd be great if you could include some or all of the races in yellow, so that we can get a really good club representation at the races but please also let Nick know if you are aiming at the national league - we need to register names in advance, which Nick has been co-ordinating.  Nick has already arranged for automatic registration of all club members for the regional league but you must enter the individual events as a member of Ipswich Triathlon Club.

Further information:

STOP PRESS - if you are thinking of entering GRAYS sprint event please note that this has been brought FORWARD from September to Sunday 18th July.

Culford - information and entry form now available - see "events" section.

Sponsors sought - Adrian & Julia (swimathon) and Kate & Charlie (London marathon) are looking for sponsors.
See in "small ads" for further details of how to give generously!

Club kit - you will have read in ITCH about Adrian's endeavours to find a new club kit supply.  Since ITCH was published we have looked at a different source of supply.
See club kit section for details.

53-12 are sponsors for Culford. They now offer a 10% loyalty discount on all purchases for 2004. Call 01206 505011 to register.

CULFORD - Steve Robinson tells us that the confirmed date for Culford is Sunday 25th July 2004 - not the 18th as we had originally envisaged.  If this is going to cause problems for anybody who has chosen this particular event to meet their marshalling obligation, please let Dave Copland know as soon as possible.
I have set up an e-mail account for the event - culford@ipswich-tri.org - which (if it is working!) - will go straight to Dave.

Contact charlie@ipswich-tri.org with feedback.
