The Outlaw Half weekend at Holkham Hall has become a regular fixture in the Ipswich Triathlon Club calendar, and this year saw another fantastic turnout from the club. With racing, volunteering and plenty of support both on and off the course, it was a brilliant weekend for everyone involved.
The weekend got underway on Saturday 25 July, with 4 club members taking on the 10km run, before attention turned to Sunday’s main events. 12 members competed in the middle-distance triathlon, while one member taking part in the Aquabike. Everyone had their own goals, racing for a personal best, completing a first middle-distance (or first triathlon ever!) or simply enjoying the challenge, it was great to see so many club members on the start line.
Many members made a weekend of it by camping on-site in the beautiful grounds of Holkham Hall. Spending the Saturday evening together over a relaxed meal gave everyone the chance to catch up, share race plans and enjoy the atmosphere before the main event.
Club support extended well beyond those racing. 6 members volunteered as marshals throughout the weekend, helping the event run smoothly and providing plenty of encouragement around the course. Seeing familiar faces out on the run course each lap was a welcome boost, and being presented with their finisher’s medal by a fellow club member made crossing the line even more memorable.
We also had two members, and Bramble the dog, who came along purely to support, cheering everyone on throughout the day.
The weekend was a great example of what makes club events so enjoyable. With members racing, volunteering, supporting and spending time together away from competition, there was a real sense of team spirit throughout. A huge well done to everyone who took part, gave up their time to marshal or came along to support – it all helped make for another excellent Holkham weekend.
