Welcome to Ipswich Triathlon Club's website.

Membership is invited for 2015!

As one of East Anglia’s leading triathlon clubs, we aim to promote the sport of triathlon to all levels of athletes, whether beginner or expert, junior or ‘superveteran’.

No-one will be excluded and beginners and newcomers to the sport are especially welcome. In 2014 we had around 150 members of all ages spread over Suffolk, South Norfolk and Essex. They ranged from complete beginners - some still yet to do their first event - to athletes who have competed in world championships.

For full information on what the club can offer and to join the club for 2015, please visit http://www.entrycentral.com/ipswich-tri

Membership subs for 2015 remain £20 for seniors, £30 for families, £5 for individual juniors, with a new £10 associate category for parents.

Club calendar: ipswich.tri@gmail.com

This Google calendar is for formal club members' events such as Greshams sessions & time-trials, and events such as the winter cross-country series where we try to have a club presence. People able to add events include Dave Copland & Charlie Stannett. If you think you need to be able to add events here, drop a note with details to the calendar e-mail account ipswich.tri@gmail.com - but don't forget that things shown here are visible to the whole world.  If you want to arrange something less public and less formal, try using the club's closed group in Facebook.

05-Feb-13 2013 Club senior championships - click here for rules & eligible events

Membership-processing - as some of you know, there are some problems with the EntryCentral system. I am in any case waiting for a delivery from the printers but I will send out paper acknowledgement letters as soon as I can, including kit vouchers for those of you who renewed by 31st January.

Club kit - our Belgian supplier has ceased manufacture. So please bear with us: although John Moody ( kit@ipswich-tri.org ) has limited stocks of some items, there will inevitably be a delay before we can get things working again.  If you have a club vest which could be lent to some of our cross-country competitors, could you let Russel know.

09-Nov-12 Committee, kit, etc following AGM.
The club committee becomes: Chair - Simon Palmer, Treasurer - Simon Green, Secretary - Charlie Stannett, Junior development - Isabel Smith, Men’s captain - Neil Catling, Ladies' captain - Caroline Goldsworthy. The AGM decided to retain the post of communications officer - Charlie Stannett.

In addition, but not committee posts, Russel Breyer is helping Isabel as junior events co-ordinator, and John Moody is taking over as kit monitor.
or kit orders please contact John Moody at work on 01473-694270 or by sending him a PERSONAL message on Facebook (John is in the FB group as "Belsteadbrook Leisureclub")

Membership subs for 2013 will be £20 for seniors, £30 for families, £5 for individual juniors.

Christmas social event - Thursday December 20th - look out for e-mail; bookings (with deposit) to susannah@ipswich-tri.org

07-Nov-12 Annual General Meeting
Click here for minutes of the 2011 AGM.

Club Annual General Meeting will be held at Greshams on Thursday evening 8th November. The agenda will include:

  • Presentations to our 2012 Club Champions - click here for current standings [PDF]
  • Fixing of subscription levels for 2013
  • Any proposed changes to our constitution
  • Election of our committee for 2013.

Further information in "ITCH".

10-Sep-12 Championships updated to included August's race - click here for current standings [PDF]
13-Aug-12 Members information letter updated - please note that Simon Green's phone number has changed, and that John Wankowski should be contacted in the first instance by TELEPHONE to arrange a Thursday evening rendezvous. (His current e-mail address will shortly become a black hole.)
02-Jul-12 Championships - click here for current standings including June's Harwich & IM70.3UK (Wimbleball) [PDF booklet] - the current leaders are still Chris Tye and Kate Stannett - but currently excluding June 17th's Fritton lake standard distance event.
However - I'm going to have to make a guess about who was in the Fritton event unless somebody can send me a set of results showing which club people were racing for. Also, can I remind anybody who races "long" (eg the Outlaw) that we need you to send in a full set of results, in a format that we can process, within two weeks of competing.

Club kit - for all enquiries, please contact John Wankowski by telephone - 07810-294856 - and arrange to meet John at Greshams or Woolverstone on a mutually convenient Thursday evening/Saturday morning, when John can bring samples with him.  (John's e-mail is currently diverting to his place of work, where he simply cannot process kit requests.)  Also - John, who is already our treasurer, would be more than happy to hand over kit responsibility to somebody else, possibly at the end of the current season? So, if you're interested, please start thinking about it.

Forthcoming Greshams sessions:
5th April: Valley Road hills (400m hill repeats)
12th April: Fynn Valley run (5 miles off-road, no headtorch required)
19th April: Speed session (1200m intervals Henley Road)

22-Feb-12 Cross country - Bungay 19 Feb - Russel Breyer writes:

Another good turnout today and a strong team showing from the senior men founded on some fine performances, including three top 20 places.

Special mention also to Abbie Thorrington (55th overall) and Antonio Carpasso who we reckon came top 10 in the juniors.

Other provisional results from memory, full results in due course:

Ben Caisey 10, Ben Green 16, Lee Morgan 17, John Wankowski 26, Martin Archer 58,
Russel Breyer 61, Mikele Carpasso 83, Simon Green 115

The final run in the league is at Haughley Park in Stowmarket - everybody welcome.

Cross country - Stowmarket 4th March - 11:00 start

For those who are unsure of the new stretch of A14 at the Haughley Straights, follow the signs for A1308 Haughley, then stay on the old A14 road past the Little Chef restaurant/services, following the signs for Haughley Park (ignoring the right-hand turns for Haughley, Elmswell and Wetherden). 2 miles after leaving the new A14 turnoff for Haughley, you will find the entrance to Haughley Park on your left. Haughley Park is owned by "2 Sisters Food Group Ltd" and their sign is clearly visible at the entrance. This is a nice parkland course and features woodland, dips, logs and fields suitable for spikes and should be around 5 miles for seniors and 2 miles for the junior race. Remember your club vest.

Friday Fives - This is a series of five 5 mile running races, mostly on road, held on Friday evening. Dates are:

25 May Ipswich, 1 June Kirton, 8 June Stowmarket, 29 June Bury, TBA July Gt Bentley

You usually get bling or tee shirt for each event, plus a series medal provided you complete at least four of them. Don't forget your club vest.

Gresham Thursday night sessions - be ready to run at 7:00 pm; remember to bring shower/change of clothes if you're going into the bar afterwards!

23rd Feb: Dales Road run, 1st March: Henley Road speed session,
8th March: Fynn Valley head torch run

Saturday morning swimming at Woolverstone

The pool continues to be available from 8:00-10:00 although the first half hour or so of the third Saturday of each month is usually reserved for juniors (the older ones of whom often stay on for a full session). If you want to participate in the juniors sessions, please contact our Junior Development Coach Isabel Smith rather than just turning up on spec.

For the seniors, our life guard Mark Oxford writes training sets up on the board for experienced swimmers to follow against the clock. If you do not want to follow Mark's sets, please use the outer edge lanes.
Charlie Stannett usually provides coaching assistance in the left hand edge lane for less experienced swimmers & others wanting feedback on their technique from 9:00 until 10:00 but he cannot be there this coming Saturday 25th (away on a coach's training course) so let Mark know if you need special care & attention!

20-Feb-12 Senior championships 2012 - to remind you, the senior championships will be determined by a league system this year. The rules and the eligible events are linked from the members information page or click here to go straight to them [click here for PDF].

With effect from October 8th, the session cost will be 5, but we will be reverting to TWO-hour pool sessions, running from 8:00 to 10:00. (The first 30 minutes of the third Saturday of each month will normally be given over to widths sessions for our juniors. Please contact Isabel if you intend coming to these juniors sessions so she can plan accordingly.)

Tri-Yoga Season 2 with Joan Stonehouse
Those that attended the Season 1 classes already know that Joan gives clear and precise instructions with excellent demonstrations, keeping a light but focussed atmosphere.
We have five dates, starting on the day the clocks go back (so you won't be out on a long ride):

  • 30th October 2011

  • 27th November 2011

  • 11th December 2011

  • 15th January  2012

  • 5th  February 2012

All sessions are on Sunday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Friends Meeting House, Fonnereau Road, Ipswich. Put them in your diary now! Whilst attending one class will help you, attending the full series will pay dividends as you learn more techniques and progress to advanced postures with regular practice.

County cross-country championships
The Eastern Athletic Association 2011 Cross Country Championships will be on Sunday 27th November, at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook. Saturday morning sessions at Wolverstone pool - September

10th Sept 8-10am (early start for 30 minutes or so of juniors width work - this has been brought forward from the 17th to avoid clashing with some activities linked to the Tour of Britain)

17th Sept 9-10am

24th Sept 9-10am

Open water swimming

Consensus is that the secret location is now too cold/dark/weedy to continue for this year so thats it for 2011. Hopefully well get the use of the site for 2012, but dont turn up on spec - it wont be unlocked.

Click here to see older notices

We usually have an informal club run or something similar (come ready to START at 7pm - and please wear appropriately visible kit during darker evenings) and then have a chance to chat in the bar from about 8pm. Food is available from the bar until about 9pm.

We also have access to a local school's 25m pool for Saturday morning swim sessions, usually during term times -  click here for further details.
