Ipswich triathlon
club is promoting three races as usual during 2012.
Culford, the Junior, & the
duathlon
Culford -
29th July 2012 -
EVENT FULL
Once
again, this year's Culford Triathlon filled up on the day entries
opened. You can join the waiting list at
http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100027 but bear in
mind that it's likely to be a while before anyone withdraws and
places become available.
If a place does become available for you,
you'll receive an email inviting you to take up the place. You only
have a limited amount of time to accept the invitation so please
check your email regularly. The email will be sent from ECMailer@entrycentral.com
so you need to ensure that messages from this address are not
blocked by your spam filter. Your payment card will only be debited
when you accept the invitation.
If you decide that you don't want the place
after all, please click the "Decline" link in the invitation. That
allows us to offer the place to the next person on the waiting list
promptly.
The race will take place on Sunday, 29th
July 2012. The format is the same as last year: 300m swim, 21k bike
and 4k run. The entry fee is £25 for BT members and £29 non-BT.
Further information about the race will appear on our website at
www.ipswich-tri.org/culford in due course.
The 2011 Ipswich Cycling Association evening cycling
time trial series. For results and further information please consult the
Ipswich Cycling Association's website.
British Gas Great East Swim: please note this is NOT
being organised by the triathlon club and we regret we do not have any
special access to Alton Water for people wishing to train for this
open-water event.
Club calendar (trial of Google calendar)
This is a trial, to see if we can use Google
calendar for formal club members' events such as Greshams
sessions & time-trials, so people able to add events include
Dave Copland & Ant Birt. If you think you need to be able to add
events here, drop a note with details to the calendar e-mail
account ipswich.tri@gmail.com
- but don't forget that things shown here are visible to the
whole world. If you want to arrange something less public
and less formal, try using the club's closed group in Facebook.
Forthcoming Greshams sessions: 5th April: Valley Road hills (400m hill repeats)
12th April: Fynn Valley run (5 miles off-road, no headtorch required)
19th April: Speed session (1200m intervals Henley Road)
22-Feb-12
Cross country - Bungay 19 Feb - Russel Breyer writes:
Another good turnout today and a strong team showing from
the senior men founded on some fine performances, including three top 20
places.
Special mention also to Abbie Thorrington (55th overall) and Antonio
Carpasso who we reckon came top 10 in the juniors.
Other provisional results from memory, full results in due course:
Ben Caisey 10, Ben Green 16, Lee Morgan 17, John
Wankowski 26, Martin Archer 58,
Russel Breyer 61, Mikele Carpasso 83, Simon Green 115
The final run in the league is at Haughley Park in
Stowmarket - everybody welcome.
Cross country - Stowmarket 4th March - 11:00 start
For those who are unsure of the new stretch of A14 at
the Haughley Straights, follow the signs for A1308 Haughley, then stay
on the old A14 road past the Little Chef restaurant/services, following
the signs for Haughley Park (ignoring the right-hand turns for Haughley,
Elmswell and Wetherden). 2½ miles after leaving the new A14 turnoff for
Haughley, you will find the entrance to Haughley Park on your left.
Haughley Park is owned by "2 Sisters Food Group Ltd" and their sign is
clearly visible at the entrance. This is a nice parkland course and
features woodland, dips, logs and fields suitable for spikes and should
be around 5 miles for seniors and 2 miles for the junior race. Remember
your club vest.
Friday Fives - This is a series of five 5 mile
running races, mostly on road, held on Friday evening. Dates are:
25 May Ipswich, 1 June Kirton, 8 June Stowmarket,
29 June Bury, TBA July Gt Bentley
You usually get bling or tee shirt for each event,
plus a series medal provided you complete at least four of them. Don't
forget your club vest.
Gresham Thursday night sessions - be ready to run at
7:00 pm; remember to bring shower/change of clothes if you're going into
the bar afterwards!
23rd Feb: Dales Road run, 1st March: Henley Road
speed session,
8th March: Fynn Valley head torch run
Saturday morning swimming at Woolverstone
The pool continues to be available from 8:00-10:00
although the first half hour or so of the third Saturday of each month
is usually reserved for juniors (the older ones of whom often stay on
for a full session). If you want to participate in the juniors sessions,
please contact our Junior Development Coach Isabel Smith rather than
just turning up on spec.
For the seniors, our life guard Mark Oxford writes
training sets up on the board for experienced swimmers to follow against
the clock. If you do not want to follow Mark's sets, please use the
outer edge lanes.
Charlie Stannett usually provides coaching assistance in the left hand
edge lane for less experienced swimmers & others wanting feedback on
their technique from 9:00 until 10:00 but he cannot be there this coming
Saturday 25th (away on a coach's training course) so let Mark know if
you need special care & attention!
20-Feb-12

session on September 24th is a one hour session,
starting at 9:00. We regret that the pool is
NOT available on Saturday 1st October. With effect from October 8th, the session
cost will be £5, but we will be reverting to TWO-hour pool
sessions, running from 8:00 to 10:00. (The first 30 minutes of
the third Saturday of each month will normally be given over to
widths sessions for our juniors. Please contact Isabel if you
intend coming to these juniors sessions so she can plan
accordingly.)
Tri-Yoga Season 2 with Joan Stonehouse Those that
attended the Season 1 classes already know that Joan gives clear
and precise instructions with excellent demonstrations, keeping
a light but focussed atmosphere.
We have five dates, starting on the day the clocks go back (so
you won't be out on a long ride):
30th
October 2011
27th
November 2011
11th
December 2011
15th
January 2012
5th
February 2012

are on Sunday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Friends Meeting
House, Fonnereau Road, Ipswich.
Put them in your diary now! Whilst
attending one class will help you, attending the full series
will pay dividends as you learn more techniques and progress to
advanced postures with regular practice.

advance with Susannah by e-mail to
susannah@ipswich-tri.org- there is
priority booking for Ipswich Triathlon Club members, but if

24th Sept 9-10am
Open water swimming
Consensus is that the “secret
location” is now too cold/dark/weedy to continue for this year so that’s
it for 2011. Hopefully we’ll get the use of the site for 2012, but don’t
turn up on spec - it won’t be unlocked.
We meet every Thursday night at Greshams Sports Club, Tuddenham Road,
Ipswich. We usually have an
informal
club run or something similar (come ready to START at 7pm - and please
wear appropriately visible kit during darker evenings) and then have a chance to chat
in the bar from about 8pm. Food is available from the bar until
about 9pm.
We also have access to
a local school's 25m pool for Saturday morning swim sessions,
usually during term times - click here
for further details.
